The Latest Toy

Introduction

This is the latest aquistion :D

This is the second 40th Birthday present for my wife. The first one was more or less identical to this but after ten days of ownership a Pis*ed transit driver wrote it off as it was parked at the side of the road

Anyway this one gets picked up tommorow and is an absolute minter:cool:

I think that this may be my next mad project (but don't tell my wife :worship:)

 Looks nice :). Heh subtle mod it without her knows I like your style  :slayer:. Can get turbo kits for them can't you?

Even better you can get off the shelf super-charger kits

But off the top of my head will start with chassis braces, bigger wheels and brakes, and as winter is here a hard top:eek: super-charger when she goes to see the outlaws with the kids in the summer;)

Well 2 months down the line and the madness has truly started

Will gets some pics up when I can get it clean again but in summary it now sits on 16" alloys with wider lower profile rubber also has a black hartop fitted for the winter now too

The biggest change comes with the addition of a Jackson racing Supercharger, with J&S ignition controler and a water colled intercooler :D so should be running a good 40 to 50% more power  once everthing is settled down will look at seeing if i can squeeze even more out of it but will need a better flowing exhaust before i really can do anymore

Nice, always fancied a 'charged MX5, guy over on Cento Rebels has one now in a beautiful metallic blue colour.

Think he got it cheap as had suffered some piston failure, but rebuilt and runs sweet now.

You'll be needing a LSD next to get all that extra power down, unless yours already has one, as they don't all come with one. :D

Bit of an update and pics

here she is sat on 16" alloys these were fitted to the sport version that had bigger brakes (guess what i'm looking out for now ;) )

And as I mentioned earlier that it now has a supercharger fittled but i have spent the last couple of weeks fitting a crank overlay to spin the charger faster and only just finished fitting a PWR charge cooler the boost is currently at 8PSI but hoping for 9psi when i fit the shiney smaller nose pully i have sat on my bench.

Just need to clean everthing up now

Well for my 2,700th post I though I may as well give a latest update on my MX-5

The tweaking has continued as you probably expect from me. The car now runs water/methanol injection to keep things a bit safer as the injectors are getting pretty close to there limits. There is a 1 gallon tank mounted in the boot with a 150psi cooling mist pump and a single 180ccm devils own injector mounted after the charge cooler

On the intake side it now has a TDR induction kit with K&N filter, which is mounted in a nice cool place in the engine bay right above a cold air feed behind the NS headlight

The car also has a slightly different set up for the charge cooler now adding in an alloy bailey header tank and high flow water pump. I have also added in an auxiliary cooling fan that is switched via a thermostatic controller so if the water for the charge cooler starts to get too warm this takes car of it

I have also done a dual throttle body conversion this last week which gives a much better throttle response by reducing the throttled volume.

In the coming weeks the next thing to happen will be converting the ignition from twin coil pack 20,000 volt to a coil on plug 60,000 volts

excellent work :D.

I bet the throttle response is good now :slayer:

and to satisfy my own curiosity whats the benefit of changing the ignition?

The Mk2's are notorious for going through coil packs and mine are starting to play up a bit. I can replace them with a COP set up for less than the cost of buying new standard coils packs (no point going second hand with these as they will probably be duff or close too failing).
By replacing the coil packs with a much higher output system I will get a hotter more constant spark and I can open up the spark plug gap and have an even bigger spark which gives a better tip in response.

It will also allow me to run even more boost in the future if i want too;)

Just thought I'd update this thread

The evolution continues, the charger is now been spun to hell and as fast as it is possible to spin it too so I am at the boost limit with this setup :chin:

The lastest project has been to convert to a stand alone ECU so have fitted a megasquirt this highlighted the fact that the injectors were just not up to the job so a set of RX8 injectors has covered off that problem.

With the megasquirt I now have map based fuelling so i have got rid of the restrictive MAF set up which has also let me move to an atmospheric dump valve rather than a recirculating one

The more I tune the car the faster it gets it goes like s**t off a shiny Teflon coated shovel and the noise is just something else
