My FIRST Car

Introduction

Having recently passed my driving test, thought I'd get some pictures up of my first car:D

It is a Renault Laguna 1.8 8v RT sport and I love it:D :

Blimey, this threads gone a long way :D It never actually crossed my mind when I first read it that you may have been driving it most of the time. I was a named driver too for a few months on my parents policy on the lag, however i was using it as intended, as it was the same car that was used by mum and dad for things like going to work! It cost them an extra 900, however they saw it worth it due to the convenience of me being able to run the odd errand for them :D Then I got the Punto and got my own policy as I wanted to earn my own NCB. £2209, I'll never forget the price lol. Didn't work though, as I crashed it halfway through last year, at fault.

I know this isn't on topic but I also want to tell you the following, from one young..ish:D driver to a recently passed one. It's a shame that most people need to go through a crash to calm their driving down (it makes you think 'what if' alot more, and that's enough to calm you down), and I hope that you are wise enough to be able to see what a waste of money, and almost life, my above example was. I hit a car with two young girls in it, and their very, very annoyed mother, understandably. Luckily no one was injured. Could I live with myself if I had been going a bit slower and hit the side of the car and killed one of the kids? It's hard to even contemplate the guilt. I also would have been dead (or even worse disabled for life) if I was traveling a tad faster, with a car in my door at 50mph. I'm not suggesting that you race around the streets, but we all know that young drivers do get carried away. Of all of my friends, I know of only one who doesn't, and ironically he drives a Volvo 440, powered by exactly the same engine in your Renault :D. Stay safe dude.

Anyway, I think you know exactly where you stand, and arguing over the internet doesn't achieve much at all. You're old enough to drive and earn your own money, you're old enough to make your own decisions. All we can do here is give you friendly advice, and its free for you to take. And in any case, we're all enthusiasts and we like the car! Well, I do at least :D

Anyone would think I've got some suped up vauxhall corsa with racing stripes the way this thread is making me look.

I have a sensible "grandad car/barge" that I use to get to and from work in. I don't race, I don't tailgate, I don't drive round like an idiot with a deathwish like so many I've seen. So why all the ****ing abuse? I only came to post pictures of my car for godsake.

Ok, this will be my last on this. Either people agree to not breaking the law to obtain insurance or they won't.

:bang:

why do some members turn EVERY single thread into a god damn argument!

It's not an argument. A member has publicly declared using fraud to obtain insurance, and this could invalidate the insurance in the event of a claim. Now, if this person drove into YOU, then YOU had to make a claim only to find that their insurance wouldn't cover them, then what would you do?

What about these no claims for named driver policies? Insurance companies are surely expecting people to take out these policies in the early years, and once the no claims are built up they can take out their own policy.

The declared 'main driver' gets the NCB if it is earnt. The named driver does not because they are NOT THE MAIN USER OF THE CAR!

All this standing on your own 2 feet stuff and buying old, unrefined old technology cars to aid insurance. What a load of rubbish.

All cars have to pass an MOT to be used on the road. Why does that make an old car any more of a risk? How come there were less accidents on the roads 10, 20, 30 years ago etc. with "unrefined old technology" compared with today? That's even taking into account the fact there now are more cars on the road, but even so with these so called 'safe' vehicles the overall accident rate is HIGHER.

I'd rather be driving around in a new car that doesnt pollute as much, is MUCH safer in the event of a crash (reduces insurance ;)) and is alot easier to drive (reducing the risk of a crash).

Newer cars, other than ABS and traction control, do NOT reduce the risk of a crash. They reduce the risk of INJURY in a crash. And again, why are the accident rates per number of vehicles higher today than they were years ago if the cars are so much safer?

Just let the guy enjoy his car, which he totally deserves to.

Would you be happy if he crashed into you and had his insurance voided for failing to declare? What would YOU do then?

There's little point in adding anything more other than to say just because you don't agree with something doesn't mean you should commit an offence in retaliation. It's a bit like saying that the price of beer is too expensive therefore you should go into a shop and steal it. Two wrongs don't make a right, and if you doing a wrong could bear consequences for others as a result then that makes it even worse.

Fenton, everyone wants you to enjoy your car. But everyone wants you to be covered by your insurance both for your sake and for the sake of all the other motorists on the road. Remember, it's not just about you, it's about the protection of others as well.

And I just hope no-one on here has a falsely 'declared' driver run into them on the road and then find said driver's insurance doesn't cover them...
