My Marea did not come with a cabin/pollen filter as standard. I want one as I hate smelling exhaust fumes when in traffic with the fan on (why should I have to turn the fan off?).

I went out and bought the filter, but I can't just fit it. Is there some sort of clip I need or something? Fiat parts were being crap about supplying me it, so any exact info would be appricated. Haynes manual seems to brief.

Thanks,

Checked mine a while ago and it wasn't there either.

The manual just says " Undo the screws A, remove the cover, take out filtering element B and replace it."

Have you got the long thin filter? It looks like it just drops into the hole that's left when the cover comes off. Unless there is something else that's missing, I think they are only fitted on climate control cars.

Haynes manual talks about some clips on either side of the filter (part of the car). It all doesn't make much sense to me. Looks like a trip to Fiat parts on Saturday. Calling them didn't help.

Ts86net the pollen filter will not stop the smell of exhaust fumes, you will need a carbon activated filter for that. The clips I think you are refering to to hold the filter in do not exist it is basically a rubber band that clips over the top and bottom of the mounting and yes pollen filters were only fitted to a/c equipped cars if I remember correctly.

Thanks for your post Notorious. I'll worry about getting a carbon active filter afterwards - Bosch do one I think.

What I do want to know more about is this rubber band thing. The filter has no indication of a rubber band strapping someone etc. What should I do with this filter thing now?

Sorry it's a bit "in your face", but I'm so lost [V]

The filter is fitted into a moulded plastic cradle under the passenger side scuttle panel. If your vehicle does not have air-con it will not have this cradle just a hole. Your need to buy this then fasten it, to the screws which are already there then fit the filter in and a elastic band fits over top to hold the filter in place.

FiatExpert, thank you very very much.

I obviously have to wait till Tuesday before I can go down to Fiat parts department, so if you can provide a part number for this then it would help even more. I'm lost in the Fiat parts CD for one.

Thanks again,

FiatExpert, if you could help some more please...

Called Fiat Parts department on Tuesday. They thought they knew what I needed, so went into today and had a look on their screen before paying. Even went outside to the car and opened the panel from the front and everything. They couldn't really help much.
They basically said I shouldn't bother as I don't have A/C. Anyway, what they shwowed me on their screen was the casing where the element sits in, but from the dashboard side. They said because of this it would be a massive job to fit it.

I'm basically hoping for a fitting/changing from the front as you'd expect (in front of the fresh air fan).

I'm lost, and they're lost. Any idea what the part number for the element housing/casing is please?

Also, from my copy of the parts CD I think it's part number 46442421

Is this correct, for fitting under the scuttle panel?

I can't just order and try. They won't accept return on non-stock item.

TIA,

just found this thread since i was also having trouble fitting a cabin/ pollen filter to a non- a/c marea 2.0

Basically there is nowhere to mount the filter, just a hole that leads to the fan, that's even smaller than the filter itself. We're obiously not in the generation of cars that were fitted with pollen filters as standard here. Maybe the air is fresher in Italy, eh?

One option is to gaffer tape the filter over the hole where the fan is, though it'd be hard to get a tight enough fit to ensure 100% filtering

Another option is to cut the filter down to size and wedge it in the hole, using some silicone sealant or gaffer tape to plug the gap

I'm not sure which route I'm going to try, but having bought the filter I'm not going to give up on it -yet

Interestingly one supplier asked me to measure the 'old' filter because he said there were 2 sizes ( I didnt have an old one in mine so couldnt do that)

If you don't have AC you don't need the filter. It's to stop things going down into the AC system and growing into deadly bacteria. Legionairs disease anyone? Think this is correct anyway.

As for their being 2 sizes.. I think there are left and right hand drive ones...

Hi Chrisorganic,

The story is simple - filters were not put to all versions (say hi to Italian accountants). What we all need is a plastic mount - you can buy it at fiat's or from scrapyard (cheaper).

I don't have it yet either and will simply make my own of plastic gutter + some rubber band and two nuts.

OK so if you want to add it to your own i've copied the details below, worth checking when ordering that they're arent LHD and RHD variations, and DONT buy filter element from FIAT, is £23ish+VAT Prices are shown so for under £9 you'd have all the parts.. or off a scrapyard one either way!

Hope this helps! :D (y)
