Hi. I have looked fairly throughly in past posts, and cannot see any reference to intermittent stalling on idle, which turns to hunting between about 500 and 200 RPM when warm, with foot on the throttle (1/4 open) to keep engine going. When first started, it hardly stalls on idle at all, then this gets more frequent until eventually the hunting behaviour cuts in as full working temperature is reached. It always restarts promptly.

Car is 1997 1.6 saloon, just acquired. The EMU key symbol dash light is on when running, which I note may be a cause for concern. The car runs very well in all other respects.

vertingeterix,

1. Check for air leak at the inlet manifold & the hoses
2. Check the MAP sensor & it hose.
3.Check the the stepper motor wiring harness, clean the s/motor & it housing if neccessary.
4.Check the TPS & the wiring harness
5. Check the throttle cable - neither to taut nor too loose.
6. others to check - clean spark plug/adjust gap & check spark plug cable continuity.

Cheers

Thanks Subija. I'll try what you suggest and briefly report back. PS: Typo error in my original post: should have stated 500 - 2000 rpm. Note another post on unstable idling since mine. Regards vertingeterix

idle speed control valve needs cleaning.

what colour keys do you have? and how many? are they all original fiat keys? do they all start the car? does the key code light remain illuminated with all keys?
