I still haven't found a jtd 130 gearbox for my marea Weekend so I thought I'd try a different approach.
Does anyone know if the range of jtd engines are inter changeable? i.e. would a jtd105 be a straight swap for the jtd130.
If so would I also need to change drive shafts/ radiator etc. Also would it then make my speedo read untrue?
I'm not too worried about the drop in power, the car is only used for ferrying around my wife and kids, I only bought it for the beautiful leather interior.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Give me the engine! Give me the engine! Give me the engine!

Wouldn't think its a straight swap sorry. Driveshafts are almost certainly larger for the 130. Suspension is all setup for the extra engine weight and then there is the electronics

More chance of fitting an Alfa gearbox I'd think.

thought you didnt want it because its only a 10v ?

What happened was this.
After driving 1500 trouble free (and 50 mpg) miles through France the gearbox packed in on the school run. There were two small knocks (I couldn't call them bangs) but the car carried on the remaining 100 yards OK. At the time I thought I'd run over something. When I got back to the car there was a small pool of oil. I drove home ( 1 mile) with no problems but the rest of the gearbox oil dumped itself on my drive in the next hour or so. The AA man gave me part of the gearbox casing back (the bit around the dipstick) and there are also a couple of smaller bits. The problem is I don't know if it was something outside trying to get in or something inside trying to get out, but I suspect the latter.
I've spoken to quite a few gearbox specialists and the common feeling is that the diff has exploded, however none of them have sourced a replacement box yet.
The car has only done 61K miles and I do like the JTD130 engine so a complete replacement isn't my first choice.

get the gearbox off and then compare it to the gearbox on a 105jtd, or even try other marea gearboxes. you never know, if the bell housing matches you can be 99% sure it will fit, and hopefully have shorter ratios. i wouldn't be surprised if the 105 box fitted.

Rustymini I think I just found you a gearbox.

They are quoting £200 delivered with a 30 day warranty. (it dont hurt to haggle though.)

I had limited info, so said it was a 99 registered 130JTD.

If thats no good to you, Ive found another in Derbyshire, for £264.38 inc VAT + delivery.

Looking at the map the Derbyshire one is a about 50 miles or so from you, I just gave them a ring and they said they would loose the VAT if collected. So that brings that down to £200, this one has a 90 day warranty. You could probobally get it down to £180 to cover your fuel costs, depends on if you have time etc. but there you are two geraboxes.

wow nice one TDF, well done. how did you manage that? i had to ring over 50 places just to find a choice of 3 gearboxes for my 1.8 bravo, and my gearbox is way more common than the 130jtd.

oh right, that explains the price. believe it or not the parts gatesway got me in touch with a place that suppllied a gearbox from a punto gt and it cost £700!! and even worse my mate bought it and then found out it crunched a bit going into 2nd and the warranty had expired by the time it was fitted. the summer of 2003 was a bad year for him. the first day he brought the GT home i touched a wing mirror and it fell off, it had been glued on (badly) by the previous owner, we still laught about it to this day, but the gearbox wasnt a laughing matter. that GT was nothing but problems.

Latest update on my jtd130.
The gearbox in Derbyshire turned out to be the td125 version. However I've brought the one in Newcastle (£195 delivered). It won't arrive until Tuesday.
In the meantime I need to decide whether to do the job myself or pay someone else to do it.
I'll post another progress report when something happens.

You didnt go up to collect it did you ? I'd have been fuming, I clearly stated 130jtd on the form and when I phoned them, I said you offered me a 130jtd gearbox through partsgateway earlier....

Do it youself you know it will be fun. Me I'd get the local greasemonkey on the job, I hate oil. :p

You are not going to believe this...................

The parcel company have lost my gearbox!!!

I'm waiting for a phone call to see if they've found it yet. It should have been here 3 days ago so it's probably gone for good.

Do you think its just not meant to be ?

How on earth do you loose a gearbox, surely someone didnt just walk off with it.
