Hi,

My Marea has a steering wheel that doesn't sit straight. Is it safe for me to take it off and re align it as it has an airbag inside?

Cheers,

Mark

Is the tracking ok on the car ? It maybe the tracking is out thats why the wheel is not straight.

point to note, adjusting the track rods will allow you to align the steering wheel but it will mean the tracking may then be out, similarly adjusting the track rods to get the tracking perfect will most likley make the steering wheel out of alignment. getting both the tracking and the steering wheel perfect at the same time is a pain and requires patience, you need to adjust both sides by the exact amount. adjusting till you get it close is easy (say a slight misconfiguration of the steering wheel and a slight toe out), then you need to do quarter turns or less on one side at a time till its perfect. i wouldnt go for perfect tracking, i prefer a slight toe out on front wheel drive cars.

assuming your tracking is currently perfect (and the cause of your steering wheel misalignment) you could just adjust one side to create a bit more tow out and align the steering wheel. which side depends on which side the steering wheel alignment is. but remeber if the tracking is too much out you will get premature tyre wear, i once guessed my tracking when fitting a new trakc rod end, a few hundred miles later my front tyres had wires hanging out. expensive mistake.
