If you can check the AC compressor is turning (mines at the front of the engine) then it really only leaves the possibility of rneeding a re-gassing and possibly replacement of pipes.
:yeahthat:

if it does need regassing buy the kit from halfords (£39.99) and do it yourself :)

Hi.

Just a little question, what kind of complexity would be involved in removing the entire Air-con/climate system from my 1998 R Marea 1.9TD that's screwed and then install ALL of it into my present 1998 R Marea 2.0 20v that is an HLX model that doesn't have Air-con/climate.

Cheers.

An awful lot of complexity, plus when you run the air con your car performance suffers badly and your petrol consumption gets chronic. I very rarely run my air con, been toying wth the idea of removing it all, but can't be bothered.

yeah £65 is about the average for an A/C service. and regassing it yourself is easy to do but make sure you get the right freon, there's 2 main types R-134 and R-12. most DIY cans are the 134 stuff. im not sure if thats suitable for the marea, check haynes

Yeah Marea use R-134. R-12 is the stuff that turns to mustard gass when exposed to flames

The only problem is if you find there is a leak you've just squirted £40 into the atmosphere! For £25 more they will pressure test your system before filling. If it leaks they won't bill you for the gas. Not sure if those cans contain enough to fill a system.

true a leak would mean its a waste of time and money. it usually takes about 3 cans to fill a fully drained system, but 1 can is often enough to get it working if you havent fully drained the system.

I bought a can and did mine according to the gauge you get with it and it didnt seem to take much theres a good bit left it still dosent work mind. The gauge read between 25 and 45psi for enough in. The manual says it needs .6kg to fill from empty and dosent seem to mention pressure not that i could find anyway dose anyone know what it should be?
