Has anybody had problems with leaking gearboxs? I was getting my exhaust ckecked because it was blowing. When I went to get it they told me my gearbox was leaking oil and i can either get it stripped and all the gaskets replaced or put a second hand one on. Don't think I'm being conned because although it's a main dealer that found it, I am an employee and kinda trust the people I work with. the thing is it's a 51 plate with only 39000 miles and though even a Fiat gearbox would last a bit longer! Hi
Not sure if it helps, but my 2.0 has been seeping from one side since 30,000 miles/2 years old, and I did have it all cleaned, and re-sealed. However the leak returned at about 60K and it has weeped ever since.
I get the oil level checked every now and then (on a 2 post ramp, as the car has to be level - remove the gearbox fill bung and check the oil is level with the hole).

The car has now done 117,500 miles in 9 years and counting, and the gearbox still works fine, no strange noises.

A few small engine/gearbox oil leaks are not normally an issue - always check how bad they are, but remember a small amount of oil goes a long way and can make it look worse than it is.

Well had the leak fixed. They stripped the box changed gaskets and put it back together again. coming to a total of £290 thats including my employee discount! (n) Apparently oil was coming out of everwhere on it. Just the airbag light now and thats her all ship shape. (y)
