hi guys n gals

im after some urgent help

i have recently purchased a p reg fiat marea hlx weekend estate 2ltr 20v

i need someone in the bury / manchester area who can replace a intake manifold gasket (which i have already purchased at £14) the problem i have is that i have been to numerous garages who have either looked in terror and refused the work as i believe the engine is a nightmare to work on or want stupid amounts of cash which i would rather spend on alloys and tinting etc

if there is any one interested in undertaking this and possibly a cam belt replacement could you get in touch i am willing to pay the going rate but would rather someone who has worked on these before do it as from the responses i have had from garages has not instilled alot of confidence

if i cant find someone to do this i may have to get rid of the car which i really dont want to have to do

thanks in advance any recommendations for garages you have used appreciated

Re: marea hlx mechanic required help still needed

hi guys please help if you can im quite confident i can do this job on my own but any advise or pics would be appreciated is there any thing i should be careful of or look out for

thanks in advance

jon

cambelt is a mofo! i think pete just got really lucky!

as for the inlet manifold i'll take a look at my head see it i can gibr you a bit of advice, i imagen you would need to remove the big circular intake bit which is a bit tricky but i imagen its not going to be so bad.

will take some pics for you if i can aswell(y)

cheers mate i would appreciate that i have got it booked into a local garage on tuesday who reckons around £200 but i suspect once he gets underneath that price will probably go up and i would rather get the windows tinted and a k&n type filter fitted are there any cheaper versions as these are on ebay for around £75

look foward to some advise

if any one needs any pc support or website advise feel free to contact me

i dont suppose you have any contact details for the guys in birmingham or any idea on how much its going to cost

what would you recomend for the air filter

cheers mate

would probably br able to do it myself no its bank holiday any special tools required any advise on which order to dismantle would be great

i beleive the air con unit has to come out (im not bothered about regassing)

cheers mate just gave them a call they quoted £80 labour for the gasket

and also £420 for cam belt, tensioners, aux belts if anyone else is interested looks like im off the brum next weekend

thanks for all your help guys keep up the good work

one more question before i leave you alone (for the weekend at least)
looks like the stearing wheel has been dismantled at some point and the facia that covers the airbag is out of alignment meaning that when i use the horn it catches the stereo controls not a big job i suspect but its doin my head in and want to reseat just worried about setting of the air bag whats the best way to remove this cover

cheers again

Told you they were very agreeable for the price! Don't forget to mention where they were reccomended from!

I havn't taken apart an airbag wheel so I can't say what needs doing. Bunny's Bravo had a gap down the side of the wheel centre cover when she bought it. Not sure what was done to close the gap.

i will definatetley tell them where i got the recomendation has anyone approached these guys on a business level to try and get discount for forum user's as i suspect this could be really good for both drivers and the garage

may be in return for an advert on the forum if possible

if this is possible may be we could try and get more garages to do the same and build your own network of garages across the country i know this would fill a gap as its been the one thing that i and a few mates have struggled with

let me know what you think

also i run a webdesign company with unlimited hosting space email address etc so if theres anything i can do to help the cause (free hosting etc) on that front just let me know

happy to help

i was but cant bear it going to get it fixed one way or another

Would rather leave on for a couple days just incase if that is ok.
You never know !!!!!

i just had a look on my head an i did try to take a pic but my camera wouldnt co-operate.

there looks to be 10 or 11 nuts holding it on, so yes it will be a right pain to do if it can even be done without removing the head/engine.

think its going to be a much better idea to let motomech deal with it as they know what they are doing.
