its been getting worse for starting over the past month so when it eventualy wouldnt go at all i changed the glow plugs but still nowt any ideas

well it turns over fine and just keeps turning over untill ive flattened the battery it used to start in a cloud of smoke on three cylinders but after about 20 seconds it was fine running sweet and clean just passed its mot so emishions were fine

well after i changed the glow plugs and it still wouldnt go i loosend off an injector pipe to see if i was getting fuel well there was none so i stripped out the stop solenoid on the pump and checked it this working fine so the problem is before this somewere any clues

well i took the pipe off that supplies the injection pump and give it a good suck and got a mouthfull of diesel for my trouble.
im starting to suspect that the stop solenoid might be at fault after all although it seemed to work fine when i tested it of the car.
help

If you are getting fuel to the injector pump then the fuel pump and filter should be ok. That leaves the injector pump itself. If the stop solenoid works off the car you need to check if the feed to the solenoid is ok.

Remember if you have had any of the low pressure elements disconnected you will need to bleed the high pressure side with the engine turning over until you see fuel at all the injectors.

If all else fails you need to check the high pressure pump.

the feed to the soleniod is good so is it just a case of loosening the injector pipes and cranking it over until fuel apears?
im sick of charging up that fnn battery
why doesnt some one invent something you can plug into the mains and start your car from that id buy one (as long as it was cheep )

There will be some form of 'lift pump' on the fuel system before the injection pump. It's probably an electric pump situated in the fuel tank. Make sure this is working.

well ive got no blockages from the tank to the injectors (cough cough plenty of diesel in my mouth) and i checked the stop solenoid on and off the car and it works perfectly cranked it over with no stop solenoid in and can see fuel level rise in the solenoids hole.
on older cars there would be a hand prime pump they were great and alot easier so my next stop is the fuel lift pump
any idea were to look for this a blanking plate or something or am i going to have to drop the tank off.

i think this is a diagram of my fuel tank but am not sure if that is a sender or a pump located on top

well i found the access panel under the carpet in the boot and unscrewed the locking collar the unit pulls out easily it has two plugs in the top one for the fuel level im thinking the other is for a pump the unit is cheep to replace so its a trip to fiat for me and hopefully that will be it
i couldnt see any pump or motor housing but i guess its internal there is nothing else between the tank and fuel filter so im hopeing thats it

well ill find out tomorrow hope it doesnt turn out to be the injection pump as 2.4td mareas are like hens teath in breakers yards

I had this problem with mine.code light stayed on wouldn't start etc.Tried allsorts and found that on top of the engine there is a block of about 15 wires, the plug had come loose.clipped it back in and everything worked ok.see if that is the problem(y)

well the thing i thought was a lift pump is just a sender unit for fuel level aparently the injection pump draws its own fuel im going to the scrappy tomorrow to look for an inline one way valve type priming pump to see if that works all my conections seem fine and there are no lights on the dash so i dont think its electrical ill just have to soldier on
# otherwise ill be breaking it for spares cos im getting sick
