Hi all,

I recently bought a 1998 S regd Fiat Marea 100TD ELX Weekend and have been disappointed to say the least with the fuel economy. Within two weeks of buying the car I had the red fuel injector warning light on so took it to Fiat for a diagnosis and found I needed a new water temperature sensor and EGR sensor to the value of £300!

The fuel economy was only 32mpg before it went to Fiat and since it has come out it is STILL THE SAME!!

I was told this car should achieve 42 or so mpgs which would indicate a fuelling problem I guess? Is this right or am I expecting too much?

Apart from that, the car drives very nicely ;)

hello :D 32 mpg is way out of what you should be getting(n) my 2.4 jtd averages around 43mpg with 20% stop/start town usage . i will get far more on a run(y) you should be at least matching that unless your useage is purely town driving or flat to the floor :p driving i am told that the earlier td versions weren't as economical as the later jtd versions but shouldn't differ by that much:eek: get it into a diesel tune-up specialist:) might cost a bit to get set up but will be worth it for better economy and should make better power as well(y)

i've a 99 td100 elx saloon. i do mostly long country runs usually in 5th gear, or 4th and keeping to a steady 55-60mph ie <2200rpm. The rest of the driving is school runs and trailer pulling etc. My weekly figures for the last year average 44-49mpg. Motorway driving would be in the mid 50s. Ocasionally i would have to do a fast run or pulling a heavy trailer load (up to 1/2 ton) either of these brings the weekly average down into the thirties. As far as i can see the secret is a light right foot (turbo cuts in at 2500rpm) and read the road making use of the hills. i've heard the jtd engine is far better. hope this helps

Expect between 23 - 28 mpg from a 2.0l 20v.
They are very thirsty beasts but are great fun to drive.(y)

I've got a 98 R Reg Marea 100TD ELX Weekend and that only over managed to get 35mpg at best, but I do live on the Isle of Wight, if you know our roads.

But know I have got myself a 98 R Reg Marea 2.0 20V HLX Weekend and let me tell you, that drinks Unleaded like theres no tomorrow but I love the power it produces and the sound is fantastic I reckon that my 2.0 20V must only get in the mid 20's of MPG at best.

Cheers
Rob:D

Ryan,
Let me know how they did it if you find out!

I'm thinking of trading it in because i'm paying through the nose for fuel!

Thanks for your responses people.

I have just returned from a trip to Llandudno from where I live in Nuneaton (predominantly motorway driving) and I achieved 43mpg which I presume is poor? Any idea how much it would cost me to get tuned up at a diesel speciailist so I can achieve optimum fule economy?

Thanks again. :)

Don't suppose anybody knows where I could take it reasonably local to me (Coventry) that could sort it out?

Hi from Finland! I have been consistently checking out the fuel consumption of Marea 1.8 Weekend (Gasoline) 1999 Manual shift. I got this car in Feb of 2006 and average temparature was like -20 and fuel consumption was about 7.5l/100km(37.6mpg)-with winter spike tyres. I am expecting to see the fuel consumption of 45mpg this month(average temparature is about 10 and I changed tyres for summer).
