Was motoring along last night in my Marea 2.0 20V, and as accelerating away from an intersection I changed from 3rd to 4th gear and presto, nothing there, except alot of revs. Tried 5th gear and nothing, back to 3rd and nothing.

I am now left with 1st, 2nd and reverse gears only. There is no resistance putting the gear lever into the top 3 gears and the clutch is not required. I am assuming a selector rod or something has broken.

Does anyone have any ideas and the sort of cost involved as I unfortunately cannot work on my car due to a lack of space where we live.

Hi Dave,

No solution yet. The closest Fiat specialist is quoting anywhere from £400 to £1200plus to fix depending on what the problems are.

I tend to agree that it is a problem with the selector, more likely broken. But added to this is an oil leak coming from between the engine and gearbox, so I have bought another car. I have not as yet decided what I am going to do with our Marea.

I had a similar problem on my old tempra and ended up changing the clutch and crank shaft and gearbox input shaft oil seals which have a tendency to go after about 75,000 onwards, I now have a 100sx which has clutch judder and I suspect the same oilseal troubles are about to emerge.so Im contemplating stipping it when the weather warms up!!
