HI, hope someone can help, I've bought a 1998 Marea 1.6 Auto, the car is great but it has some unusual faults. The instruments have a fault..... when the ignition is switched on without the car being started the temp and fuel gauges work, ie the needles move up. When the car is started the rev counter also works, after about one to two seconds all the needles drop to the bottom and do not work again until the engine is turned off and started again, then again they work for about 1 to 2 seconds. The speedo also doesnt work at any time. Does the speed sensor on the front wheel cause these types of faults...? I dont think its an earth fault as it isnt random. Any idea's...? Cheers, Steve

Hi lowline and welcome to our forum. :)

Do you have any other electrical faults, e.g. side lights or panel lights, or is it just the instruments.

Check your fuses just in case you are getting a false feed with the engine off.

The speed sensor could be faulty as it appears to share a common feed with fuel and temp guages.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi there, cheers for the tip. I've checked all the fuses and everything is fine, there isnt any other electrical faults that I can find. Also the milometer still works, I think this must be from the same sensor as the speedo but I'll check the operation of this over the weekend...... cheers, let you know
