Yesterday morning when I started my 1.6sx marea the mileometer only displayed part or the reading, some of the lower vertical lines of the total display and some of the upper vertical lines of the trip reading. this morning only the total display was showing anything.

The lines that are displayer are bright which indicates that the bulb is ok.
While driving none of the lines change which makes me think that the mileage isn’t clocking up.
The car is due for its NCT (mot) in January so any help is appreciated.

Sounds like the display has packed in. Not a lot you can do unfortunately except replace it.
You could take the console out, remove the display and controller and check their connections for dirt/water etc. Slim chance though.

Thanks for the reply. The display has flashed back a few times but it does not look good, I'll try the local scrapper.

I experienced this problem once after opening the bonnet in the rain and rainwater from the bonnet flooded down and gave the electrics a good soaking. The speedo needle waved all over and the milometer flashed and various parts of the display locked in position. After driving a while, it dried out and worked again. Not your problem, I know, but worth checking for dead shorts first...

had the same problem ,replaced the full unit from a scrapper but the replacement unit is showing its own mileage figures instead of mine, 68000 instead of 42000 , anyway to regain the lost miles or reprogram it ?

A Fiat dealer may be able to help or try ebay for a mileage reset tool. Don't remember seeing one for a fiat though.
