Hi all a part which i think covers the cat on the exhaust has fallen off i managed to retreave it but i am wondering what it's purpose is (a) does it cool the cat or (b) does it protect it is it worth the cost of having it replaced is the exposed cat metal or ceramic.Thanks in advance for any replys.

Sounds like part of the heat shielding built onto the cat. Best plan is to have a look and see if it looks like it needs replacing.

Hi Dave thanks for the reply i will post a pic tomorrow my thinking is a heat shield as it has cut outs in it, if this is the case will it cause a problem it not being there as i think it may be a problem putting it back on.

it probably wont hurt the cat, but i an not sure what its protecting from heat, but this time of year its not going to get too hot i wouldnt think

its a common thing on cento's, its there more to stop the cat setting fire to long dry grass (remember cars not designed for uk only) most cento owners leave off once its fallen off

as it was on the underside of the cat i would think it was actually cooling the cat do they get that hot as they require extra cooling?????

would imagain the holes are there so that the sheild does not get too hot (thus defeating the point of it) if anything cat will get more cooling now than before

Having had chance to look over a cat close up - I'd guess its there to stop things getting burnt by the car - remember they operate at very high temperatures. How much use is it? Probably not too much.
