Looks like my alternator is toasted. Finally managed to remove it today and the housing is cracked. Will a A127ir-100 from an Alfa fit? It's hard to find used 100A alternators. Is the 85A the same physical size? Can I use that instead?

Your model can have either the following:

Fiat p/n 46439036 - ALTERNATOR - 100Amp
Fiat p/n 46740238 - ALTERNATOR - 120Amp (Special Fitment - Police Vehicles + Tour De France version)

Might be worth searching the Fiat Part Number and seeing what makes are suitable. I think Denso do a DAN518 which is the same.

The old one is a Miagneti Mirelli a127ir-100a. The question is IF the pulley and brackets are the same on a127ir-85a? Anyone?
Anyone swaped between 85 to 100 or the opposite?

They can be swapped if they are not the same.
I have repaired my A127IR twice (20v weekend), parts from autospark.eu. If you end repairing it, the rear bearing is special with smaller diameter, front bearing standard.

Also assembled one from two broken ones (one had cracked case and the other had seized bearing eating the rotor). The pysical sizes are same, diodes and wires seemed little different but they were from different years.

Tried running it in bench yesterday and the case is so cracked that when applying pressure to the brackets, the alternator seizes in the stator. So this will be scrapped. Have found a 127ir-85 och from what you are saying it should fit then?

Yes it should fit fine. If the pulleys are different just swap them over.
