I own a 1998 Fiat Marea Weekend SX 1.6 16v with 35,000 miles.

Recently I have noticed a juddering which appears to be coming from the engine between 40-50 mph. At all other speeds the car drives smoothly.

We had done the following to the car but this has not solved the problem:-

1. Balanced all wheels
2. Swapped front wheels for back
3. Checked Wheels for any damage
4. Changed front discs and pads
5. fitted new Ball joints to drive shaft.

The juddering does not appear to be coming from the gearbox nor does it appear to be coming from the steering as the gear lever and steering wheel do not judder when the juddering occurs.

The garage thinks it may be something to do with the drive shaft but doe anyone have any ideas?

hi,

1.Check your engine & gearbox mounting. Tighten or replace if neccesary
2. Check your shock absorber
3. unbalance or deformed wheel (s)
4. check the wheel bearing for free play

good luck

Hi,
Does it still do this if you hold it in fourth from 40-50 or does it only do it in top??
If it does it in fourth and fifth it sounds like its something like a bent drive shaft, if so you may get another shudder between 80-100 due to the harmonic resonance. If it was engine mounts or an engine problem it would probably appear in every gear and you would definately notice the engine mounts when setting off as this is when most torque is applied to them.

Let Us Know the outcome

Chris

Cheers guys

I've had it to the local Fiat dealer and they have informed me that it is a new spider joint and inner cv joint in gear box that needs replacing.

Waiting for parts to arrive.

Will let you know if this sorts problem.
