hi, still going..!!(y)

alternator maybe..remove the belt and see if noise is still there..,

my serpentine belt "chirps":D

cheaper than a duck decoy whistle:rolleyes:

Still got the whining noise lads it increases with the revs but it's not there if your free wheeling down a hill out of gear..

Hi,

Just a guess here, but any chance it might be your truss bearing within your

gearbox housing and pressure plate. Can I ask you, does it whine when sitting

in the driveway, in neutral and with engine running.

John.

hiya m8 no noise when in neutral etc only when you rev or as you go up through the box

the old belt is now on it's last legs.. so I'll be getting it swapped in the next couple of days,
dave had given me a hint about locking the belt tensioner - with an (8mm..?) drill bit..,

I'll try and get a few pics..at least it's dry/sunny..

andy ilsf - is your marea still alive..??
Charlie

i do believe that is true, but not worth the effort imho. A normal spanner, and an extension to ease the pressure on your hand and to elongate knuckles from sharp bits is a good move.

agreed, (y)

I did the tensioner a couple of summers ago,
refitted the tired old belt.. in case there was a failing bearing..that threw the belt - but has held together ok,

amazing how I'd remembered MOST of the job,
it was the routing almost completely around the crank pulley that got me.. BOTH TIMES:eek:

anyway ON , and sorted now

used a 2ft "breaker bar" and some wood to prop at top of stroke.. couldn't see any form of locking hole/slot

start the car, Get a long screwdriver and put the end onto the nut of one of the aux pulleys.. (i would start with the 80mm one) and press your ear on the handle end.. it makes a kind of stethoscope.

When the deflector pulley started to go i didn't have any obvious noise in neutral either just when the engine was under load in gears..

took me 10 mins to change the pulley and it cost me 13 quid.
