Technical Aux belt issue 1.9 jtd- lost tension..!!

Hi Charlie,
the AUX belt has an auto tensioner with no locking system, a 15mm spanner sits on the idler bolt (reverse thread) and pulls the assembly down (anticlockwise) while you slip off the belt from another pulley, the idler next to the air con compressor is the easiest on my vehicle, then release it back to it's starting position. my guess would be that the spring has failed inside, but complete a thorough check of all other idlers and accessories used by the belt. a new idler should be a half an hour job. RH front wheel off and remove engine splash cover should be enough access to replace it, get a tube to elongate your spanner, getting the new belt on hurts when using a standard spanner without some extra leverage.

you have the JTD 110 no?

cheers for the link..!!,
I've got a spare belt already - came with car ( in door pocket..?!!)

so I naturally guessed the "tired-looking" belt had let-go..,
but it seems fine,

I'll get the wheel off over the weekend,
stupidly I'd "finished" with that corner for the time-being, and am moving on to the Left front supension . wishbone,etc..

never a dull moment..!!,
but it was £290 with 4 months MOT, and @100K miles.. runs really well.

the tensioner IS accessible from the bonnet side, but it's tight and much easier to just have the wheel off and make life easy for yourself.
the car is more than 10 years old, there will never be a moment when you have "finished", and for the price you paid, mustn't grumble, i had to pay 7x more than you, although a few less miles, and a St Moritz limited edition, but still! mustn't grumble! they're lovely cars so well worth the effort (y)
