I have started getting a major clunking noise from the off-side rear wheel. My local garage told me a rubber damper of some sort had fell apart and as usual it only came on a full module costing £240! The noise is driving my nuts and the clunk can even be heard just bit sitting down in the driving set heavily. Anyone repaired this without having to go the whole way and replace the rear suspension/axle unit???

Does is sound worse when the wheel DROPS into a pothole or when it hits a bump?

If worse when dropping its likely to be the bearing(s) on which the trailing arm pivots. Usually shows as negative camber on that wheel. You can get a repair kit from a motor factors (NOT Fiat dealers!!) for around £15 trade say £20 retail.
If on hitting a bump, then probably a subframe mounting, costs around £18 ( for a tempra Weekend, anyway) from a motor factor. Again not available from the robbing bastards at Fiat who want to sell you the whole rear crossbeam.

I've been trying to locate rear subframe front bushes at motor factors and cannot find any. Can you please point me in the direction of a supplyer (V reg. Marea Weekend)

Also what sort of job are they to fit???

Cheers

:bang:

John Morgan Autoparts in Carmarthen have them - I bought two for my Tempra weekend last MOT but then ended up fabricating & welding the old one's instead. Swapped the unused bushes for a cambelt kit the following day!
It looks like you'd have to drop the subframe to fit them, but this doesn't look too dificult to do - the mounting bolts bolt up into the car interior, so should not be corroded in place etc. I reckon you could loosen, but not remove the rear mountings & remove the front bolts, then the subframe would drop sufficiently at the front ( with jack support) to remove & replace the front bushes. I dobn't think you'd need to disturb the brakes etc. The bushes are quite big - about 3" in diameter & 4" high.
I didn't renew mine 'cos fabricating new containing rings for the rubbers (which were fine) was easier than dropping the subframe, & I can weld etc., but I did seriously consider it

Hi,

Please would you advise me of what the technical name is for the circular shaped rubber that fits neatly into the coil spring attached to the radius arm on the rear suspension. (I have a Fiat Punto S Reg).
And where I can get one from plz???

Many Thanks
Deak.
