I am the proud owner of a ’99 T reg Marea Weekend JTD 105 a bright red Umbeto Agnelli beauty with Alfa alloys and corners like it on rails, what a joy to drive, as good as my mini-cooper S.
Recently we had a problem the pas stopped working and the battery went flat, it was found to be the drive belt tensioner spring that was broken.
Some few miles before this event the small red injection symbol on the dash panel lit up and has stayed on, there does not seem to be any drop in power, if there is it is hardly noticeable although she she seems to by using a little more fuel, all that happens it the red injector light stays on. Also the yellow ‘CODE’ symbol lights up as normal but occasionally(rarely) stays on throughout the jouney(red key) although when I start again(blue Key) it goes off and stays off.
Can some kind Fiat blooded soul please help?
I am in rural France there are no Fiat agencies around these parts; anyway I would prefer to fix it myself.
My thanks in anticipation.

Hi,
You should never drive with the red key, it is a master used to reprogram the ECU. Get another blue key if you need a spare.
The red injector symbol indicates a general fault in the fuel/ignition system. Try an injector cleaner first, if that does not clear it then check the plugs to see if you are running lean or rich and get back to us. Carry out a general check for any loose plugs, worn pipes, etc.
Good luck.

Hi Dave. Thanks for the red key advice. My car is a diesel with a JTD 105 engine. When you say plugs do you mean the heater starting plug?
Terry

Hi Terry,

I'll be honest and admit to missing the JTD in your post, A faulty glow plug shouldn't cause the injector light to come on.

On a diesel you should also check the fuel filter and/or bleed it to remove any water. There should be a bleed valve at the bottom.

Good luck :D

The injector light is telling you of an active fault code relating to the engine management system. This is likely to be sensor related and the reason you're using more fuel is that the ECU is trying to work around this problem (a sort of limp home mode).

Your best bet is to get a diagnostic machine to read the fault code and then go away and fix it yourself.

yes the dreaded light on the dash.things to check;-
main loom connector to fuel injector rail.
all management sensors,
injectors and wiring[common problem],
ECU failure.
have the car diagnostic checked over.i would use a good non fiat centre like a bosch service centre or similar in france.this will save you a lot of time and money and will pinpoint your trouble.

Thanks everybody. Its great to be able to get advice that is specific to the problem. I do not think my Marea is using more fuel than normal. but Ill go through all the checks.

Thanks for your info.
Can you tell me where the fuel injector rail is, what does it look like? and which is the main loom?
Thanks Terry
Are any wiring diagrams available on this site or in this forum?

hi.
fuel injector rail is connected to the injectors which are screwed in the head.

oh,the main loom has a corrugated plastic cover round it.it usually sits on the inner wing.all or most wires from engine will go to it.you will see wire cluster connection plugs around the engine.i think your best bet would be a diagnostic check.it will save you time and money.use an independant, not a fiat dealer.most fiat dealers are rubbish and expensive.

Hi Sumplug. thanks for your ongoing support, will have a quick look at the main loom and the injector rails. Then I'll have to find a facility to plug my Marea into, we are in the sticks here but will visit Poitiers later in the week. Meanwhile there is no deterioration in performance.
best wishes
Terry

Hi Sumpplug.
Thanks again for your advice although we could only get a Fiat Service Centre in Poitiers to deal with it, which they did including turning off the air bag symbol
They charged only 55 euros, the light was on due to a leak on the hp side of the fuel supply pipe.
Thought I would let you know
This is a very nice part of the world. heres some pictures on our gite website for you to have a look at.

Thanks and good luck.
