Hi i just joined a minute ago, i have been offered a fiat marea 2.0 auto, its an r-reg. it has no tax or MOT & apparently it overheats quite a lot, i have seen evidence on the filler bottle! he says i can have it as it is for £150, just wondered if anyone thinks i should not bother, & what sort of jobs are involved to get it road worthy etc, this will be my first fiat if i buy it so am an absolute begginer!

It will need a cambelt between 50k and 70k. This is about £700+ on a 2.0. Get the water pump changed at the same time.
Otherwise just the usual checks. Should be no rust on an R reg.
Des he know why it overheats? Do the internal heaters work?
The 2.0 is a great car and the fastest/most powerful in its class.

yeah theres no rust on it at all, dunno why it overheats, wish i did then i could sort it! lol anyway the internal heaters dont work according to my mate, just dont wanna buy a bottomless pit full of probs!

So does it actually overheat, or just spit the water out of the header tank?

Had a problem with my wife's when it spat a few litres of water out of the header tank after a long trip. Turned out to be only a cracked filler cap on the header tank, my guess is that it was slowly loosing water, got air into the system, when when stopped the air expanded and pushed water out.

Has been fine since replaced the cap.

At that price it's worth a punt.

Agreed. Worst case scenario is that you break it to get your money back (probably and some). Alternatively stick it on eBay where I saw one up for £150 with blown head gasket about a week ago.

If you do go the breaking route then you can put me down for the front under-tray as mine is missing... :)
