Technical Marea 20v Gearbox

I would like longer ratios, 20v weekend has fifth as long as fourth on my 1.6 Brava, only use 1,2,4 and 5 on the box as third doesnt seem to fit anywhere. Maybe a box from HGT... :p

the gearbox on the Marea is crap, My 1.6 top out at 129mph and the 155 20v tops 130mph

is there any gearbox i can swap with longer ratios ??? (stilo 2.4, bravo 20v)

Somethings not right there.
Marea has longer ratios than the HGT I recall, and mine did around 140mph while on the continent a few years back. GPS said anyway, speedo said something ridiculous in the region of 150 mph.

With HGT you need about 2300rpms to go 80kph where marea needs 2500.
Running 195/65R15 on my marea means about zero speedo error.
Dont know about ratios on workshop manual as they state HGT has shorter. Same with my brava when smaller wheels are factored in.

Yeah like Venters said my 155 has done an indicated 140mph and still had more.
Also I'm not saying you can't fit 6spd box, its just not going to be a simple swap job, also some Fiat are fitted with thedreaded Dual Mass Flywheel which will also affect what you can use.
Stilo 2.4 uses a DMF and our 2.4JTD does aswell, ridiculously expensine when clutch needs changing...

Smaller wheels will make for quicker acceleration but lower top end speed, larger wheels mean higher top end but lower acceleration although vehicle power also comes into play.
I run 215/40/17 with no clearance issues even when loaded and haven't noticed any difference in performance.
It might be something as simple as just needing a good engine service and NEW filter, often overlooked, also another point the 155 is very spark plug fussy.
I ran the expensive Bosch 4 prong jobbies and then switched to cheaper NGK's, no difference, been told the original Fiat/Champion plugs are the best but can't find any....

kool, i think i will start buy fitting bigger wheels because its running 195,45,15

thinking about swapping the whhels from my 16v marea it has 215,50,16 so should help

thanks for all your help guys :D

They sound far too small!

To get the same speed, instead of 4165rpm you would need 4605rpm. You will lose the equivalent of nearly 1000rpm at the redline.
