My faithful Marea JTD 105 has today developed a fault, when the engine has been running it will not start after stopping. It just turns over and over, once it has cooled down for a while it fires up as normal. Now I have heard of Diesels having cold start problems but not hot. Had to call out breakdown tonight after work. Had done a 30 mile trip back to office and it had stood for about 45 min and it just refused to start. It had done it earlier in the day but had eventually started after persistent trying. Any one got any idea ?

Well since the problem everything has been fine, but I did replace the fuel filter a few days ago as suggested by the recovery driver.

Today however whilst in the outside lane of the M1 it just cut out and the engine management light came on. I managed to get it to the hard shoulder where it refused to re start. Waited for recovery and guess what It sprang into life with no management light :bang:

It's now in the local garage to se if they can find anything :(

OK, we shall see what Mr mechanic says when I talk to him tomorrow. He was moaning today about having to find out his old diagnostic leads as my Marea doesn't have a standard socket because it's a 1999 model, told him I like to keep him on his toes :D

OK my car is back and my bank balance is £170 lighter. :) :(

I have a new crank sensor fitted.

In the diagnostic there were 5 faults recorded

Crankshaft/ camshaft synchronisation

Speed sensor improbable

Boost pressure

Air mass improbable

Cant remember what the 5th one was.

My tame mechanic said it was most probably the crank sensor causing the starting problems and the cut out on the M1 and the other faults could also be related to the crank sensor. He also said a lot of the faults given by the ECU were not much help ie boost pressure? what to high, to low, none ???

Any way he has cleared all recorded faults, told me to see how it goes. So fingers crossed. :worship:

Bugger

Engine light back on this morning. Car still driving OK but pooped it into garage this afternoon and the following faults were recorded.

Air Mass Improbable.

Boost Pressure.

Then his diagnostic equipment died a death.

We will resume a week on Monday when he is back from his holiday and his new BOSH module has arrived.

OK time for an update,

Engine light only comes on if you rev the car over 3,500 rpm before it has fully warmed up. Once the light is on you cant rev the engine more than 3,500 rpm. The engine performance then slowly improves until the light eventually goes off and all is normal again. Once the engine has warmed up (2 clicks from relays near passenger foot well) you can rev it as much as you want without the light coming on. This has foxed my mechanic and he is currently researching it. The car went for an on road diagnostic so the fault could be reproduced and recorded on his new diagnostic equipment. The fault recorded was "Boost Pressure"

His test's have shown that the turbo is not over boosting but he dose'nt understand why it's only doing this when the engine is warming up?

Can anyone shed any light on this??

hi

Could be 'cam sensor probable'. Maybe over looked this?
Also causes cut out and irregular start problems.
If faulty can cause engine to run in safe mode. Will not allow high revs.

I suppose so, no revs no boost, Changed both crank and cam sensors on mine to eliminate them... Had no further probs.. But as said other sensors can also cause similar symptoms.

Thanks, will add this to the pot to discuss with mechanic. I was wondering about the MAP sensor ?

Just found the lower rubber hose from turbo to MAP sensor has a few splits in it. Where can I get one from? Please don't tell me it's Fiat only

Yes new crank sensor sorted it, just trying to sort the boost problem when cold now. And the alternator pulley gave way the other day.
