Can anyone give me help on .. how to tune up my fiat marea 1.6 sx?
At the moment.. manufactures sent it out of the garage.. with 115 bhp.. got an induction kit set in.. so that ACTUALLY gives about 2 to 3 bhp... The next step .. is an ECU, but... i also want cams. I am going to call Hayward and Scott and have a double straight flow exhaust system made, but first i was wondering if there are any turbo conversions for a 1.6? I dont want the coupe enging, just a 1.6 conversion?
If my car is 117bhp dead on now, i can maybe get 10 BHP max out of the chip, roughly leaving 127, with kams, maybe 10-15 bhp, im not sure about how much power they give. but this could leave a minumum of 137, then with the hayward and scott exhaust, another 10bhp gained there of 147...i will then finally contact a custom making supercharger manufacturer and gain a good another 10 bhp. Once finished.. i should have a 157 ROUGHLY.. bhp... But... my car reaches 125 miles per hour, then the clutch smells... can anyone recommend me a high performance clutch which can cope with good performance.. i obviously need to sort a few things out under the engine before all this happens.. but does anyone know of anything else possible?

i've thought of tuning the 1.6 to get some more power, i thought the 1.6 only put out 103 BHP, but i may be wrong.

My dads got a Alfa 147 and that rated at 121 bhp, we've been comparing engines, with Alfa and Fiat sharing parts, we wondered whether the twin spark head would go on?

i like the idea of a turbo, there's still plenty of space under the bonnet.

if you do start to tune it up i'd be interested in the results and if i find anything i'll post it back here.

Good Luck

Jeff

If my car is 105bhp dead on now, i can maybe get 10 BHP max out of the chip, roughly leaving 115, with kams, maybe 0-5 bhp, im not sure about how much power they give. but this could leave a minumum of 120, then with the hayward and scott exhaust, another 1bhp gained there of 121...i will then finally contact a custom making supercharger manufacturer and gain a good another 10 bhp. You've just potentally spent enough money to buy a Fiat Coupe, and your engine will run for about 17 minutes before blowing up.

If you want a fast car, then buy one.

A Marea 1.6 doing 125mph is dangerous.

If i wanted a fast car, i would buy one. which is presumeably why i am on the fiat forum because i want and have a marea. u fool

hey jeff.. thanks for your reply... a turbo would be good. i spoke to van aaken... and they said it would be the only one in britain, but then they said its a dangerous idea.. worth a try though..

My point being. If you want a fast Marea. Why not buy a fast Marea rather than trashing the guts out of a 1.6 Base model?

The only reason I can think of why someone would pour thousands of pounds worth of performance enhancing modifications would be for the power gains.
But you don't want a fast car...........

Gentlemen, do calm down please.

Lyricalmagician, I can understand where you're coming from but in all honesty you'd be better employed trading it in for a 1.8 or 2.0 - not being funny but what's your reason behind tuning the 1.6 and not trading up?

I'm not against tuning, I've got a 1242 turbo cinquecento as well as a 20v Marea. The cinq is pretty quick, and yes I could have something faster for what I've spent on it, but it's mine, individual and I love it to bits.

There is a factory in Germany that does turbo's for the 1.8. I can't remember if they do them for the 1.6. If I can remember the site i'll post it.

You will need to consider changing your pistons for high temp versions and possibly an uprated crank as they are 'finely engineered', (read that as just up to the job).

surely a 20v would make sense? better equipment and a better starting point than a bog standard 1.6?
