Has anyone out there any experience of knackered pulley on air conditioning compressors.

Mine is a SD7V16 1104911060 1157F R134A

The air con worked fine but over the last month the pump has sounded increasingly clattery. I can see that the serpentine belt pulley is out of true and is rubbing on the thrust plate and the clutch coil. I suspect that it has now rubbed through the coil as it, now, fails to pull in.

My question. Is it possible to repair these outer parts, is there a bearing that can be changed without disturbing all that a/c plumbing, or do I have to bite the bullit and change the whole thing. If so, any recommendations for a supplier in the midlands (Shrewsbury or WM area)

Any advice or experiences would be gratefully received.

For those of you who, like me, may be mad (or skint) enought to do this I have some relevant info.

My ac compressor SANDEN SD6V12

Bearing in pulley is.

NSK 35BD219DUK or NATCHI 35BG01S10G-2DST2 or KOYO DAC35550020

Dimensions are 55*35*20 and it is a dual crowded race type.Expect to pay about £35 for this

My clutch coil was damaged (should have sorted bearing sooner to avoid this extra pain) and so I re-wound and potted it. It should be approx 330 turns of 22SWG enameled copper wire and about 4 Ohm when finished. You need to construct an accurate former to do this and use transormer varnish to keep it together. Google for more info on this.

Fiat Dealers Arnold Clark in Stourbridge (UK) quoted £580+vat (£681.50) for a recon a/c compressor. No chance of buying a bearing, new pulley, or clutch coil.

Just tested my re-built unit for clutch operation and all is well, so now just the pain of a system clean, oil, and gas to go through, but I would have had that anyway.

This has not been exactly time effective but I kind of got the bit between my teeth. Normally an expensive fix just because of a bad bearing.
