Hi,

This evening my Marea wont start. Its a Weekend Petrol 1.6 1998.

When I turned the key it started for a split second then died. Since then the starter motor turns but the engine doesn't start.

I'm thinking its the immobiliser, or the key(chip), or there isnt any petrol getting to the engine. To reset the immobiliser do I just disconnect the battery?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I've tried both my keys, so I suppose its not the immobilizer. A neighbour says its probably the timing belt :(

Thanks.
Yeah I had a look at that, it doesn't seem to have much resistance in it. I gave it a push anyway. No luck

HAVE YOU ANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH?
checked main fuse under bonnet on bulk head ?
when you turn ignition key to mar can you hear the petrol pump work/buzz ?
Simple elimination before predicting the worst

Yes

Just back from Holliers, could have done with the estate :(

I'll check the fuses in the morning.

Thanks!

I checked the fuses under the bonnet this bright sunny morning.
All are intact but the Fan fuse seemed to be sticking up a bit. I pressed it back down.

Now the car is lifeless. I turn the key and nothing happens. The battery has some 'fur' around the terminals. I tried to start the car a good few times last week and then went away for a few days. Could be that?

My wife has a Punto, I'll try that battery to see what happens.

Bah,

Tried the Punto battery. When I half turned the ignition all the gauges and lights came to life, then when I turned it all the way on there was a click and .... nothing. After that the gauges wouldn't even come on. An ECU problem?

She's back on the road.

I towed her to my mechanic who gave the spark plugs a rub and it started. :worship: . He thinks it was flooded. Flooded for a week? I dont think so.
