Hi,
I've had my 2001 Weekend JTD110 a week or so now, and I have some questions I hope someone here can answer. :)

1) I only have 2 keys, both blue. I understand I should have a red "master" key in case I have to reprogram the immobiliser. The previous owner does not have this key..... and he says he never did. The car does have central locking, but it's not remote (or at least the keys I have don't have buttons on them). Now, the question is.... under what circumstances would I need a red master key? Only if I was daft and lost a key or for something more common like a disconnected battery? If it's only for a lost key, no problem.... I'll not bother but if I may need to reprogram every time the battery is disconnected I better get one. If I need one, is a FIAT dealer the only option?

2) Rear wash wipe - neither works. When operating the switch I can hear the water pump but no water comes out and the wiper will move a couple of inches but will only complete it's sweep with brute force assistance. Obviously not a problem with the switch or wiring - but is there a common fault(s) I should look for?

3) According to the service schedule, I need a new cambelt every 72k - the car has done 87 but had a new engine at 30. Meaning the engine has done 57k... I'm always a believer in "better safe than sorry" so with it booked for a service in a few weeks I thought I would get the belt done... how much am I looking at for this?

Thanks a lot for any help you can give.

If you need a new red key fiat is the only option. But , to buy a red key you would have to buy a full set of keys and have them all programmed.
(so i was told by fiat dealer expensive or what! ). If you disconnect the battery the car will start ok (when reconnected ) with the BLUE key. this subject has already been covered and i tried it myself. Even the radio remebered its code but i would make sure you have the radio code at hand just in case..If i were you i would keep one of the blue keys in a safe place and always use the other. both blue keys are programmed. If one key wears or snaps you have a spare.

Rear wash wipe problem is as common as any other car. spare motor from scrappy will cure this and its easy to fit by removing the lower panel
on the inside of the door/Hatch. If the motor is trying then as you say the elecs are ok. Hence motor knacked.

Cam belt.......if you have 57k on the belt this gives you plenty of time to get quotes. Dont be put off if some garage gives you a high Quote . search around and get more quotes. You will also really need to renew the tensioner pulley aswell. Avoid fiat garages if you can as they charge top wack. Any garage that has done fiat cam belts will know the difference in price between the 5 cyl and 4 cyl cam belt change time and cost.

P.s. search the forum and you may find more answers to your questions.
hope this helps.

re weekender 110 hi i have the same model an w/e 110jtd sx 2001 as well in black

mine has remote central locking.

i have no red key as well but 2 blue keys but on reading through this forum most peeps dont need the key tho i will order 1 from the dealer that supplied the car as mine had a full service history so i can go back to the supplying dealer.

rear wash wipe water works on mine but as said it's an easy fix.

enjoy your car it's a great car....

Thanks, Appreciate the replies.
I had already figured I should keep the second blue key somewhere safe, so it's in a locked safe behind a secret partition in a wall thats only accessible via a retina scan ;) :D
Seriously, if a red key is only needed very rarely - I will not bother for now.
I kinda guessed the motor was dead also, just wondered if there was something else to look for before it was condemned.... but thanks for confirming my suspiscions.

let us know how you worked it out ..

Will do, apart for the rear wash/wipe (which I negotiated a suitable reduction in price for) I'm really liking the car.... surprisingly agile for a comfortable biggish car, and this is my first diesel car (always been a huge petrol head) but the torque has seduced me, a lovely lazy way to drive but with plenty of power should it be needed.

Since I've never worked on a diesel (or a turbo engine of any sort) I am sure I will be annoying you all with lots of questions when it comes time to work on it myself!

Thanks again.

Finally got it all working - the washer problem was due to a faulty non return valve under the bonnet (located on the bulkhead behind the main fuse), a pig to get at but easy and cheap to fix.
The wiper, I worked out that the electrics including the motor itself was fine and that the problem was something in the gearbox seized up.... so I tried freeing it over and over again using the instructions I found on this forum to no avail.

So I bought a secondhand motor assembly from fleabay only to find that it blew the fuse as soon as I plugged it in! Luckily it was faulty electrically but had a good gearbox so I just swapped the gearbox onto my old motor and all is good.

So thanks to this forum, everything works now :)

The new engine fitted to the car was it brand new or new to the car, if it was new to the car thats making it to have done more than 57k if thats the case its better to be safe than sorry. The cambelt cost me £100 belt and tensioner but I didnt have the water pump done.

The replacement engine was brand new, fitted by Fiat under warranty. But it was fitted more than 5 years ago, so I'm having it done later this month.
