:) Hi people,
well there was definetly some kind of fuel problem! so i decided to call a mobile diagnostic mechanic to see if he could give me positive info. half hour and £45 later he could not find a problem but he did give me some good information about checking all the earth straps so back to square one again me and my mate decided to have one last go before i had to give them exspensive fiat people a call. We decided to cut the earth strap on the fuel pump and connect it to the body of the car then to my amazement the petrol pump spluttered into life. So now for the moment of truth i turned the ignition key and the car started first time!( lovely jubbly)

Thank to everybody for your support i am very greatful and please keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

This could be bad news. PLease check that inertia switch has not popped up,as this cuts off the earth to the pump. if you have bypassed this then if in a accident fuel could still be pumped causing high risk.. please check

Not sure if i've missed a bit of this thread, but was the problem that the engine turned over but the fuel pump wasn't working?
I had this problem about a year ago, parked the car up and the next day no go. i checked all the fuses and then started on the relays, on the 1.6 SX there is a large black plastic box about left of centre of the fire (looking from the front) and there is a little relay in there (red on mine) corrosion had worked its way up inside and buggered it. By bridging the contacts i could fire the car up and the pump could be heard working. I got a new relay in a couple of days and it was about a tenner.
i don't know if this helps but as FiatExpert says if you've bypassed the safety switch, it's bbq time if you have a prang.

Cheers

Jeff
