if any one out there as been search around for perfomance parts for a 1.6 marea sorry to say i have been lookin for years and have found nothin so here are some mods you can do to increase engine power output

you can buy piggie back e.c.u's on ebay for the marea very good for the money will give you 16 new engine maps and gives a bit more perfomance
as for actual engine tuning lots can be done

ENGINE BALANCING:get your crank shaft and conrods lightined and balanced and also the flywheel not that expensive it only costs aroud 300 euro (benifits better acceleration from 0-60)

CYLINDER HEAD:polishing of the inlet and exhaust ports and the inlet manifold allows the air to flow a lot smother into the cylinder less restriction better air flow (can boost volumemetric effiecency )
valves are also a big part of the picture by fitting bigger valves the engine can get more air fuel mixture in faster and can get rid of exhaust gases quicker also turning valve spring up side down will make the valves close quicker and altering valve timing i find 5degrees retarded on the exhaust cam and 2degrees advance on the inlet works preaty good has to set up with a dial gauge and variator disc on each camshaft not a job for the fant hearted
big valve head can be done for around 250 euro at a machine shop

FUELING:i fitted a racing fuel pump to mine got it out of demon tweeks catolouge only cost 30 euro but increased the fuel presure by 1 bar and the injectors a set out ok a 1.8 marea fit and will allow slightly more fuel into the cylinder

EXHAUST:i was always told that for a 1.4 to 1.8 ltr nengines the exhaust pipes should be no bigger than 1 and half inches in diameter so thats what i fit you can get a full stainless exhaust made for about 350 to 400 euro (this will not include the actual exhaust box) and the noise ahhh so sweet

GEAR BOX:the interior parts of most family B gearbox's are the same so 1.9 turbo diesel guts into the 1600 casing will give better gear ratios and improved torque

TURBOS: i myself have never fitted a turbo to a n/a engine but it can be done with some modification to the exhaust all i can say is keep it low pressure if you do and fit an intercooler for best results from your engine

hope some of you find this usefull any question just drop me a messge will try to get some pic's up soon of the mod's
thanks for reading
