Hi guys

I've just bought the above in silver with what i think is an unsual spec !
I am the 3rd owner and i got it for £2400 with 55000miles on with ffsh and 1 years warranty left

I have done some research and apparantly these were both options from fiat.
The first owner spec'd the car with this when he ordered it inc A/C
. and i must say it looks absolutley stunning IMHO

the leather is really first class in that it is showing no sign of wear and is better quality than my last alfa!

I am pleased with the mpg at 32mpg motorway 50% 50% x country B roads

It was bought last year by the last owner for his wife for £5750 and has only done 2000 miles since last mot

Is this the only one ???

Regards Andy :)

Hi andy and welcome to the forum :D

The motor sounds great, have you any pics?

Ben (The Boss) would be interested in any unusual specs as he is compiling a list of all Fiat cars.

What reg is your car? You seem to have got a bargain there even if the cambelt has not been changed yet. (You need to change the cambelt at 55k, NOT 72k as in the manual, it will cost circa £700 to £800 for a 2.0 as they have to drop the engine)

Hi Dave

Thanks for the welcome !

I was thinking about the belts ! Do they go before 72k then ? I do a 1000miles a week ! so best look at getting this done

what about the garage mentioned on here whole job for £400 sounds good but ist it?

I will take some pics over the weekend

I had a 2.0ELX as company car in 98 and remember the belts being done at 72k I had it from new and drove it really hard as it wasn't my petrol :)

I used to tow my rally car with it and brings back great memories.

I was originaly looking for one of very rare 2.4 JTD 130 same engine as Alfa 156 but they all seemed to be the early 5cyl lump now thats a rough engine

I just sold my 156 2.4JTD that was remapped by Angel tuning to 195bhp it was a stunning and mega quick with 50mpg all day long ! hence it was they who told me to look for the alfa engined marea.

This one caught my eye by the colour and the high spec it was advertised for £3500 but with some bartering i knocked him down !

Got me worried bout the belts now :(

andy

General feeling is that belts should be changed around the 55k mark. Wouldn't worry about it too much though, I don't know of anyone who lost one yet.

£400 sounds a bargain, some garages can change the belts by dropping the subframe and twisting the engine rather than dropping it out fully.

Nige (alfanige - Angel Tuning) might be able to get you 13bhp from a remap if you are interested.

I'm getting about 23 mph around town on cold trips and 30mpg on long runs.

I wouldn't mind one of the petrol 2.4l turbo Marea's that they brought out on Brazil. :D

I am trying to attach picture

How do you do it ????

andy

Nice motors! I've always had a soft spot for large Fiats.

I used to own a Tempra myself but it was the...um... the 1.4 base version! Well, I needed something with cheap(ish) insurance at the time.

To all whats your mpg

I am getting 390 on a tank mixed driving

is this good ? regards Andy

Hi Nice motor. and well done...390? from the estate...

If i'm lucky i get 340. so an average of 27-30mpg :-( but good fun driving....sometimes

Like all good meditarranean relationships, mine is a love/hate one with a car called Marea. I bought the "bargain" 1998R 147bhp 20v 4 Door Saloon with only 7000 miles on the clock when it was only a year old and it only cost me £5000.

Like most scottish youngsters it's quick off the mark, beating many boy racers and frenetic focus owners. But i didn't buy it to be a boy racer, the useful speed is essential for getting out of trouble on scottish tea-time roads. especially when i was on the Fife to Edinburgh route.

With confident driving, and a good set of tyres (ditch the pirellis or end up in one,) it belies it's "official" road-test woes. Point it into a corner and round it goes with no problem, especially if slow-in fast-out accelerator footwark is used, A. But i didn't buy it for rallying around.

Like all children, as it grew old it developed its own little quirks, like the squeeky o/s suspension that magically disappears when the weather is dreich. And the passenger airbag warning light that keeps me company even though there is no passenger airbag.

When it was three it needed a new cv joint so i replaced both. (cost? lots!) Now its six years old, after driving through deep scottish water on the road it needs another one just today! I don't think they can handle the torque. Either that or there's something really nasty in the Perth water spewing from the tay onto the roads today.

It's had a new exhaust, it now needs a new front pipe. (costs lots!) The rear view mirror fell off and it refuses to be attached, whatever glue is used. Oh did i mention the timing belt? as this engine is from the Coupe, there is absolutely no room to work in the engine bay. So engine out and £1000 later...
Ah yes the abs unit failed £700, the clutch master cylinder £100+
Noisy kids? Noisy bearings, hopefully the auxilliary drive belt tensioner or the Alternator and not woe of woes the cams.

But like all loved ones, no matter how much tlc you give them, they still cost money... Still, at least i didn't pay the list price...

Now what did i buy it for again?
Well like all young kids with a brave wrecklessness, it screams with laughter when danger is present and if it falls it's usually only a minor repair required which is soon forgotten about.
If only my fiat could be fixed with a sticky plaster.
cheers <{iii}
James
oh yes nearly forgot, 3rd gear is a bit tricky now unless i get the road speed/revs close to the manual syncro range.

once drove 37 miles from fife to edinburgh with no clutch and only two bites from the cogs.

Hi, thanks for the sympathy....
My turn now,,,
after much searching for bits and pieces i found this site.

Vented Discs front 41.72, rear 20.11
Pads Front 33.26 (set) rear 28.28
total inc vat £144.96 from http://www.shop4parts.co.uk/index.cfm/method/info.home/

give them a 'phone as not all stock is listed..... hopefully your £250 bought something super dooper.....

Have you heard any tale of really noisy alternators (bearings) or the alternator tensioner? is there a tensioner on the steering pump?

Haynes (quite cleverly) left the marea 20v out of its handbook.
cheers <{iii} (and comiserations)
James

Nice site, not seen that one before. Prices don't seem too bad either, well done :D

These are the discs I got: http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/frame-detail.asp?PAGE=/black-diamond-brakes.htm

The Porters books miss out the 2.0 20v as well. Not much difference in the car itself and the Coupe sites give you info on the engine, so you can usually find what you are after.

Not 100% but I think you only get tensioners on the cam belt? Alternator bearings can go. Check the alternator belt is not too tight, might get a few hundred miles more life if it is the bearings.

Dave. :)

You have wierd prices over there (y) . Today I've changed my cambelt at 115kkm in my 2.0 m. weekndm, and I payed for it around 120L - all with the work and genuine parts. :)

Right now i'm looking for a marea weekend 2.0 turbo, but it was not officially sold in Poland :(
