i remember reading a thread some time ago about it taking Rob (Hellcat) around 3 hours to change a slave cylinder so needless to say when i came to doing mine when i got in from work i wondered if it would be done before dark!

as it happens it actually only took 30 minutes to change the cylinder and a further 30 minutes to bleed the system (probably took so long to bleed because the only person on hand was my mother! lol)

just curious to how long its taken others?

Ry

havent changed slave cylinder on the car Ive got but I was going to bleed it to get new fluid through like Id on the brakes but when I took the battery off and saw the amount of stuff connected to the battery box I just put the battery back on and Ill attack it later. But I did change the slave cylinder on my last marea r reg 1.8 weekend cant remember how long it took but from what i remember it was a lot easier to get at than the car i have now.

I can't even see the cylinder even though the battery is now out of the way, let alone change it.
This is on a 1998 100TD ELX so what is the secret way to get to it?
What am I missing?

Looks pretty conventional..

sat on top of gearbox.. with a flexible fluid line
Yes I know where it is, but even with the battery removed it isn't even visible, let alone able to be reached to remove the two bolts that hold it down. I'm sure I remember doing one many years ago* (this is my fifth Marea) but just cannot even begin to see how to get to this one.

I'll take a picture of what I can see tomorrow and see if anyone can tell me what more needs to be removed.

*It might have been on an Alfa 156 instead, in fact it could even have been on a Tempra.

Just found the one hidden away underneath, unbolted the box of electrics on the front of it and shifted the induction pipe and MAF sensor out of the way.

It took a while and a lot of gentle easing to get the hydraulic pipe undone after 24 years, but managed without damaging it.

Just got to get it all back together again.
