hi guys,

i am really scratching my head why my 1.9JTD105 aux belt drive is flabbing and generating very irratating noise during idling. when i remove the aux belt and start the engine, it is really 'quiet' during idling. same goes to with air con off and the belt seems running better. i already change an original belt from fiat and self loading tensioner but yet it doesn't help much.

i don't see any crack on the crank shaft pulley and it seems rotating fine. could it be the rubber has harden and no longer damper engine vibration? i can see the self loading tensioner really 'shaking' back n forth during idling. all my other components like alternator, power steering pump and air con compressor are standard.

if i raise the rpm up to 900rpm, the aux belt will runs much better and noise will goes away. my idling speed is normal which is about 800rpm.

should i change the crank pulley which going to cost me quite a bit. hope someone have solve this problem before.

cheers.

hi,

thanks for the hint. any idea where to get a crank pulley on-line with good price?

hi,

buy i know many OEM manufacturer selling it. Dayco is one of them and many more from Poland or Italy... they only market the part in Europe and not on this side of the world....:bang:

my 51 plate punto jtd did this at 47k miles not longer after I had it, the bottom pulley was replaced by main dealer. I don't know if the replacement pulley has had any modifications or been revised, but mine is nope showing 154k miles and it hasnt reoccured. From the description , it sounds exactly as mine did, as soon as there wasa little 'load' on the engine, it quietened down, then got noisy again at idle.

hope this helps

hi guys,

just an update. today i went to Fiat dealer and decided to get all the aux belt component and had them changed by myself. parts was on sales every month and giving up to 50% discount. just to give you an idea

1. Fix tensioner = RM75 (12.50 pound)
2. Adjustable tensioner = RM100 (16.70 pound)
3. Crank pulley = RM330 (55 pound)
4. V-belt = RM80 (15 pound)

the job took me about 1hr and the result is pleasing. (y) the movement of the self-tensioner is much lesser than before. it is about 5mm compare to 10+mm. after so many trial and error, i can conclude that it was the crank pulley that giving the flapping belt and noise even it looks good and no crack.

however, i notice a slight difference between the new and old one. the old one has a stamp 320-380hz while the new one is 310-360hz. don't really understand what is that for. but it solve my problem. not my JTD is not longer pulling people attention due to weird noise..:D

for those who looking for parts, i am willing to help if price work out right for you. just give me parts number.
