can anyone please help, i have a fiat marea 100 1.9 weekender turbo diesel estate, the problem is when i steer the wheels on to each lock there is a realy loud noise. i have took the belt off and there is no noise at all on either lock, the noise sounds like it is coming from the direction of the pulleys etc. i have been told it may be the alternator any tips please

ive had a mechanic listen to it and even he says it doesnt sound right but without getting it on a ramp and stripping it he says it could be the alternator but couldnt be sure so wondered if anyone on here had come across the same situation is it a common problem maybe

im in manchester, when the belt was off we started the car and steered from lock to lock and it didnt make a noise at all

If its slipping the auxilliary belt on full lock (loud squealing noises) there may be a problem with the power steering pump, more specifically a pressure relief valve not working.. try changing the pump if you can get one easily. "could be the alternator" surely to god a mechanic should be able to tell whats going wrong here. find another mechanic i think..

the belt is not slipping it is just constantly making a loud knocking sound the car is driving perfectly the steering is ok when no belt on sound goes away completely , i dont know wether to get a new belt or pump

stick some hosepipe in your ear, then hole thoe toehr end near the pump bearing, then the alternator bearing, then the tensioner, then both idlers, and the air con compressor if you have one, to determine which is making the noise. grease the noisey bearing and it may last a few years, or a scrapyard repalcement would be the next option.

hi ive found out that my crank shaft pully is knackered on the marea does anyone know where i might be able to get a new one from thanks
