Hi there, am new to forum and new owner of V reg Marea 16v 1.6 auto ELX.

car is lovely and bought it in Leeds last week hubby collected yesterday and brought it back to London.

When we test drove it we noticed the suspension was knocking. Have managed to buy 2 new suspensions from road and rally in chesterfield on way down from Leeds. was fairly cheap £45 each. apparently it is £50 for fitting in Chesterfield. nayone know of a good garage within 25 miles of East London 9i.e essex, kent, london, hertfordshire or surrey who may quote a similar price to fit?

Also on the way the doug noticed the following, when it got dark the milegage gauge bulb did not light up, a warning light that should only work on a diesel (according to thte manual, but we have a petrol car) intermittently flashed, the lights that tell you which automatic gear does not come on and then the airbag light came on and stayed on.

I am hoping it is not the airbags failing and would think it was this if the other dashboard lights were behaving themselves. Methinks there is an electrical fault afoot and hope it is something fairly asy and cheap to fix, as I am disabled, on benefits and have just spent every penny buying and insuring this car.

i love the rive of this car though. It is really lovely. Does about £35 for petrol from Leeds, through chesterfield and onto London sound reasonable. was approximately 217 miles.

The car other than this is in decent cndition. The dealer had a new exhasust out on but it is still blowing and needs readjusting. however, I cannot take it back to the garage in Leeds where it was fitted. Perhaps could be done when i get the suspension done.

I would be grateful for any help with this matter. My hubby can just about drive a car, but has NO mechanical know how at all. It will be down to me to get it sorted.

The name's Kizzy by the way so feel free to call me that :)

Kizzy,

any good garage should be able to fit the suspension stuff for you, and hopefully you got wishbones and drop links. they should be able to sort out the exhaust leak as well. the odometer backlight is a small light bulb which is probably blown - simple to replace. dont know which dash warning light you are referring to but it sounds like the glow plugs warning light (which only diesels have). dont know why this would be coming on, as it shouldnt be connected to anything if its fitted in the cluster. the airbag light will probably be due to poor connections on the airbag wiring loom or an intermittent clock spring in the steering wheel. It is best to remove the connectors between the airbag ECU, pretensioners and passenger seat sensor if fitted and join them permanently to prevent the light coming on again. you will need to get an auto electrician to do this, and then get diagnostics done on the airbag to turn off the light. without fixing the root of the problem, the light will keep coming on.

This is what confuses me. In the manual it says this light is for diesels only and I have a petrol car. It looks like a kind of banana with spray coming out of it. Other people have said it could mean replacing an injector but I thought it was not for my car. Could there be a minor/major electrical fault and would the absence of a red key cause a problem if I have an electrical fault?

Thanks

well thats an injection light then, both diesels and petrols have them. It means there's a problem with the engine management / injection system. being a 1.6, it could well be a duff injector or two. its unlikely to be an electrical problem as such. Are there any symptoms of poor running ?. It sounds like it might be using a bit too much petrol by your description of the drive home. A blowing exhaust can cause problems with the engine also.

If its having problems like this after a dealer sold it to you, take it straight back to the shower of gangsters. The marea is a nice car and probably suits you perfectly, but no one needs that sort of hassle straight from a dealer.

Oh, and lack of a red key wont cause you any problems. if you need an extra key, simply get another one cut and clone the transponder.

Have decided to keep car and fix it. parts are cheap and I am 217 miles from the dealer now. TBH I have spoken to him and he just fobs us off. Have got car booked in for garage on friday to fix wishbones and brakes and to reseal the exhaust. I can get a rail of injectors 2nd hand for about #50 and will try and change them following advice from the forum. Dealer reckons if I put injector liquid in it could clean the injectors and turn the light off.

The car has a good gearbox and has been kept quite well. I think the previous owner did not want to sort the exhaust and wishbones.

I am grateful for everyone' advice.
