I have a 1.6 sx 2000 V Marea weekend.

Love it but starting to have problmes with it. The rear sub frame was replaced after bushes went in October - that was the 2nd time in 2 years!!! Over £500 a time. In october we also had rear brake pads and discs replaced, wishbones at the front and the Timing Belt ( we had done 74,000).

On Christmas day, the brake warning light started to come on - never seen that before in the 6 years we have ad the car. - I presume this indicates that the front brake shoes/pads need done - what price is reasonable for this?

Seen a lot of talk on here about the Cam belt replacement - Is that the same as the timing belt?

Also our boot lock is knacked - well the handle really. If it get jammed up the boot is out of use. What is the easied way to fix this problem.

Many Thanks for all.

For the boot handle, get a small cutain hook (or similar) and screw it into the plastic flap of the handle (the bit you push up to open the boot). You may need to drill a small hole first to help you screw in the hook. You can now use the hook to pull the flap down when it gets stuck in the up position. You will hardly see the hook from the back, but you will know it is there when you need it. This was a tip from another forum member, which I used when my boot lock got stuck too.
As for brakes and discs - I got mine done at Kwick fit - good service and reasonable price, plus they give you a guarantee on parts and labour for as long as you own the car!
Good luck.

Alternative option for the boot handle is to take the rear panel off and get to the root cause of the handle not coming back down.. Could be fitted with a small spring to aid the return. A replacement from a scrap yard could solve your issue.

Cambelt = timing belt as the function of the belt is to control the timing of the cams :)

I took the tailgate apart and greased the mechanism and its been fine since. I got good advice on here about finding the hidden fasteners. (inside the handle and behind the reflectors BTW)

Roberto's got a thread about replacing the lock and other components in the tailgate at he's been having trouble with his too.

The timing belt (cam belt) isnt a tricky job on the 1.6 and any competent garage will be able to do it easy and for not a huge cost.
