Hi mate, and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

Does it stay on all the time? With the engine running, with the key at MAR?
Sounds like it could be a control unit fault.

Cheers,
Alan

Yes the light does stay on and showing my ignorance whats the MAR !!!!!
Guess the first thing I should check is whether the glow plugs are actually staying on.

Thanks

Before this started did you wait for the glow plug light to go out before you started the engine? Not waiting for the light to go out can seriously shorten the life of the glow plugs.

Sounds they need replacing now anyway.

Normally if there is a fualt in the cold start system, then the glow plug warning light flashes for about 10 seconds after you start the ignition. Is it on constantly, or flashing?

MAR is the position where everything is on, but before you start the engine.

Cheers,
Alan

Usually it means theres a fault in the cold star system, this can either be a Glow plug thats worn and needs replaced or something like the control unit. Fiat can do a diag and tell you whats what, however this costs. 99% of the time its a Glow plug that needs changing, although from what i hear some are a bugger to get too.

Now i'm confused about what you say about your light, does it do this:

Select key to first click (glow plug symbol lights up) wait for it to go out and start.

Then 10sec it comes back on flashing for how many flashes?

It shouldnt flash for more than 1 min, from what others say.

Mines is on in my Punto JTD and i had a diag as it was in anyway for one, and i've got 2 glow plugs out, it starts fine and will do untill i get them changed (this week), or more fail. However if the light is on for 200miles something is wrong.

Have you been letting the glow plug light go out before starting?

My TD100 glowplug warning light flashes for 30 seconds after starting and then turns off. It transpires that this is caused by the failure of one or more glowplugs. As it's still starting OK though, and they are really awkward to change, I propose to leave the failed one in place until it becomes a problem.

Unclip the 4 wire connector at the glow plug control unit (4 wires that go to glow plugs) then connect a multimeter(ohms range)between battery(or engine) earth & other lead to each of the 4 wires at connector.
A good plug will read 8-10 ohms.....if its faulty it will normally read infinity(open circuit) or way higher than stated value.

DONT change just one/two or even 3 glow plugs...renew them all or its just false economy, dont change 1 or 2 spark plugs do you;)

Hi people thanks for that I guess I'll be getting the multimeter out at the weekend for information glow plug light doesnt go out but does occasionally flash whilst im driving but soon goes constant again

Thanks All

Hi all

Unplugged leads tested all ok,then put leads back and problem has gone!!!!!!!!!

Must have been loose connector
