my marea just started running on 3 cylinders and engine doing clicking noise.

May be HT fault, spark running to ground. Look at the engine in the dark anmd you may see the spark leaking to earth. (Assumes its a petrol )

garage just rang to say it was 1 of the spark plugs that had cut off. phew!
