Here's a great problem that im sure other people have suffered.
OK, cold hot fast slow, under boost or idle the engine will stutter and loose power for a split second, sounds almost at idle like 2 cylinders have dropped out, you can watch the engine buck and hunt!
As soon as it started doing this, its got worse and is now at the point where in a 5 min journy the idle will go nuts and it will misfire if you like at least 3 times and one of those times severly.
I cannot understand this as performance is good all round and i achive 700 miles to a tank of diesel! (when it was or at times plays ball)

MAF checked disconected and reconected, performence good connected but always had a slight cap on the power at 2500-3000, thought this due to unrefinement.

throttle pot ok and will progress smothly with correct rpm (car shudders slightly at 2500......magic number!)

egr piston working and vacumn from unit ok (vacumn unit makes high pitched ticking sound?)

throttle vacumn ok

turbo makes all the right noises, variable vane system...pass...but good boost pressure!

fuel pump working and makes correct noise.....

So now im stuck.........fuel filter responsible for all this?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's lots of things that could cause it but it's most likely electrical since it only happens intermittently and for short periods of time. Does the injection light come on at all ?. Sounds like a loss of power somewhere. A diagnostic with live data might be an idea, but also check (replace or swap) the ECU and fuel pump relay and connections mounted at top of glovebox (you have to remove it). Then check connectors on engine loom..

Would you believe all of this seems to of been caused by the fuel filter.
replaced the Uni-part cack with a nice shiny galvanised one....god knows what make, wix maybe, Runs fine with no hicups. Lesson for all, start with the cheap easy stuff first! Thanks to any replies(y)

had you changed the filter before all of this started to happen ?? was either severely clogged or pulling air somewhere and causing loss of fuel pressure..
