I am experiencing odd handling on my '98 Weekend HLX. It wanders slightly in a straight line as if driving in gusty, strong wind. On corners it feels like sudden oversteer. It is not unique as I have seen exactly the same thing descibed on carsurvey.org. My mechanic cannot seem to sort it. Any ideas?

So it's not your tracking then? Maybe goto a tyre specialist and get that checked. Toe settings can be adjusted on the spot, but just hope it isn't a camber issue as that's something like 3 hours work.

I just test drove a 2000 Weekend ELX 2.0 and experienced exactly the same thing, like a gust of wind had hit the broadside of the car. It happened twice, making the wheel twitch a little - but it was a fairly calm day.

I've driven two others in my search for the right car and they were fine at speed. Needless to say, this one was not my car.

As for waht caused it, maybe a bad wheel bearing, tires could be dodgy. Ah, I have no idea.

first thing i would check is tyre presures if you havent already

I just bought a Marea and drove it back from Portsmouth and noticed the same thing!!!

Ooooold thread!

But wandering Mareas.. Marei... Mare...... cars is usually caused by worn lower arm bushes. It will often pull one way or the other under braking/acceleration if one arm is worn more than the other - but if both are shot then it'll just wander all over.
