Gearbox cover (right side) re-seal?

Hi,

Any experience with re-sealing that cover at the right side of the gearbox? I'm not sure, bot maybe i have a light leaking there (the area was dirty, like mud). ELearn says it has only soma sealing paste, and only a few screws hold it, which have to removed, after it you can re-seal is with sealing paste. Anyone has done it?

clean the cover and its surrounding to confirm it's leaking before going further ...

Okay, then there is no doubt the leak comes from the cover seal since there is nothing else passing it (sensor, shaft).

- drain the oil out the GB, dispose properly (recycling)
- remove the cover (2 or 3 screws)
- CLEAN both seal surface
- apply the RTV Silicon Sealant
- reassemble
- fill the GB with fresh oil

Now you should get rid of the leaky seal ...

Re: Gearbox cover (right side) re-seal?

Thank you very much! Im gonna do it today. Aand after I assembly the cover, can I torque the screws for the specific torque, or first I should make them just hand tight, and after some time with torque wrench?

Re: Gearbox cover (right side) re-seal?

RTV silicon should cure in its final position, its aim is to fill gaps and full tightening the cover after the seal has dryed might even deform the cover and create new leaks !!
So reassemble immediately and torque to the correct value.

You're welcome !!

And be ready to re-install the cover as soon as the new seal is extruded, as by its name this silicone is Room Temperature Vulcanizing ...
Once tightened, allow some curing time though, before oil refill.

Cheers, Bernie
