hi guys and girlz.
i have two questions (Fiat S60 1998) i changed engine oil and oil filter a week later i checked oil and it was black as it was before change as car is patrol not a diesel is that normal?
my car clutch replaced/fitted by some person who work from home (not good to get some one who don't know his job) since then i have problem with clutch but i m still living with it:( . so my second question when that guy replaced clutch he took oil off gear box and after finishing clutch replacement he put that back but i m wandering do i have to check that gearbox oil level if yes then how?

new engine oil will go black quickly, especially on a high milage engine (it will be dirty), and if you dont use engine flush when changing the oil (i use engine flush at every oil change).

to check gearbox oil levle you on ly need to reomve the filler plug on the front of the gearbox and then dip your finger in, you should be able to feel the oil. to fill it you simply pour oil in until it overflows. when it is as full as possible it is at the correct level.

if you arent happy with the clutch change you should go back and complain.
what exactly is the problem with the clutch?

thanks reply, engine is 46k on clock, and (jug) you was saying engine flush is that some oil or what? and where from i can buy it?
second thing filler plug where i can find it? and that mechanic said to me that gearbox oil is special type of oil. is he right or just he was saying it?

engine flush comes in a can or a small bottle, you add it to the engine oil and then run the engine for 15 mins before you drian the oil out. you can buy it at motorfactors.

the filler plug on the gearbox is usually on the front of the gearbox (the side facing the front bumper) and needs a hex bit to remove it (cant remember hex bit size sorry)

you need to use hypoid gear oil. your manual will state the exact type to use, but usually it is GL4 or GL5, and the viscosity should be 75w90 or 80w90.

first of all thanks for reply and help.
here is my problem,
i took two pictures and i think under this cap i have to pour gearbox oil. as some one said i need hex bit to open it but its plastic cap is this the place for gear oil or i m looking in wrong place?

that cap on the top of the gearbox is the breather, it is used to allow air in or out of the gearbox when pressure changes. if you fill a gearbox using the breather, you must do it very slowly to avoid overflowing. the other problem is that you wont know when the correct amount of fluid has been poured in. this is why you should use the filler plug on the front of the gearbox instead.

so best never to fill it from there
