New Fiat 500 !!

I just watched the premier on the fiat500.com site,

give it a go now, does'nt last very long!

Looks great! Looks pretty much the same as the concept, just with different rear lights (same shape, just different cluster) and that chrome moustache! Egh, but we can live with that I think.

The interior looks fantastic! The fabrics and colours against the white look fantastic. And it's coming in July 2007? Whooop! Obviously that will be in Italy... we'll probably get this in September/October? I haven't been this excited about a new car launch since... err... the Grande Punto! :D

Looks bloomin' great! Interior looks really funky and cool too.

I've heard its a worldwide release in July (y) I won't be getting one just yet (I'm having too much fun with my GT!!) I might be tempted with the 150bhp Abarth version though!!!!!

Si

Worldwide launch in July? ACE! Fingers crossed it goes ahead! The interior just looks gorgeous, I think this is the first interior Fiat have got pretty much spot on. The Bravo interior looks a tad awkward, the G Punto a bit cheap and dull, but the 500? Funky, fresh, cool... YOUNG! I cannot wait to grab that accessories brochure! Hahah!

The Abarth version is going to be amazing, but I think, for insurance, the turbo 900cc 2 cylinder sounds like a hoot! :D We'll see... anyway, managed to do a few captures from the video...

oh and by the way where have you lot got engine specs and things from

900cc turbo sounds a little on the small side - the smart is a 700cc turbo but has a lot less stuff to carry around

Auto Express! I know they're the most unreliable source ever, but it was officially announced wasn't it? I'm sure I've read in other places Fiat have been developing these engines.

Remember Fiat can get 150bhp from a 1.4, and that's for a 'sporty' Bravo. The 900cc turbo will be for the base models, but there will also be 1.2, 1.4 and the 1.3 diesel.

well tbh i think fiat have done a good job this time. i want to see one and sit in one before i make a real judgement but so far i think this will be a successful car, especially with the young ladies.

not as successful or good looking as the new Ka obviously, with its sharper lines and 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines that will actually have some torque compared to a baby turbo :p
much more suited to a boyracer than the 500.

but then who knows what it will really look like.

That's not the new Ka, that's just a mock-up based on a StreetKa photo would you believe!

The Fiat and Ka are going to share the same engines - and they're all Fiat sourced! Obviously the SportKa varient will probably use a different engine to the 500 Abarth, but the standard models will be the same.

I'd probably go for the 100bhp 1.4 16v, although there will be the 1.2 8v and 1.3 Mjet diesels also found in the G Punto also availible from launch. The 1.4 should be quite nippy, seeing as it has the same power output as the Panda 100hp and the 500 being smaller and lighter.

There's also another video that has cropped up on Youtube - this shows more of the car, and lots of spinning!

Does look good. I'm definitely inclined to go for the Abarth version when its released, theres me thinking my GT was quick, this is gonna rock!!!

yes i know, thats why i said "who knows what it will really look like".
if that pic is as accurate the the 500 mock ups then its a good indicator

according to a ford website thats not true. they said it will only have a 1.4 1.6 petrol and 1.3 diesel.

is it true the base model will have a 3 cylinder 900cc engine :0
i'll have to find the link, 1min

EDIT: the more i search the more websites say they will share engines. so it looks like the ka is doomed to a life without torque.

is it true the base model 500 will have a 3 cylinder 900cc engine?

Autocar seems to think we won't get the basic versions. If I remember right - and I can't believe my memory of this morning in the shop on this - our versions will start at £11,000.
Can't be true. I'm getting old. Please reassure me.
Otherwise, lovely. Apparently 10cm wider and longer than the Panda, so not so tiny after all...or did they say smaller?
