Hello everyone, I have a 1979 fiat x1/9. For some reason it will not rev past 3500 rpm. It has the stock weber carb & a vacuum operated secondary that I can't see opening, but I think the engine needs to be under load for it to have enough vacuum to open (in gear & moving). Could it be timing, ignition, carb??? Anyone ever have similar problems? Let me know if you think you may know whats wrong. Thanks!

Sounds like the advance on the distributor is not working, or the engine is choking up or not getting enough fuel. The second choke should kick in higher then 3500 revs. If you push the lever that opens the second choke, does it open? And if you blow air in to the diaphram, does the diaphram rod move? Then the second choke lever needs adjustment for the diaphram rod to push it open. If not, change the diaphram. Personally, i hate vacuum operated chokes. Mechanical are so much better.
