Hello!

I have a 1987 Fiat Ritmo (Strada) 85S, with the 1498 SOHC engine (149.A5.000, also found in some Regatas). It has a Weber carburettor (32/34 TLDE/150, I think) with a manual choke.

The problem is, when I start the car when the engine is cold, the engine runs at around 2000-2600 RPM. It does so for several minutes (ranging from 2-10 minutes) before it reaches "normal" idling speed (somewhere around 800-1000 RPM, I think). This seems to coincide with the engine temperature reaching around 50 degrees Celsius.

Should the engine really fast-idle at this high RPM and for this amount of time? And if not, what might be the problem and how do I fix it? :)

Might be worth mentioning that the engine idles normally when I start it when it's warm.

i ain't no mechanic m8 - but i have drven a lot of cars and that to me sounds like an automatic choke

and if so it is nothing to worry about

I have a Regata 70 weekend 1988 ... It is normal every time you start the engine in cold, the carburators ( webber ) have a relay which works with the temperature sensor, and lasts like 6-10 minutes, or until 90 c
