Hello boys and girls. This is my first post on here having just bought my own Punto. My parents have had 3 over the last four years (V Punto 60s ; X Punto Sporting ; Y Punto Monza Plus).
I've just bought an '04 plate, 3dr active, 1.3 Multijet. I'm well impressed with the engine and would recommend you all get a test drive. I've been tanking mine around and I'm still getting 50mpg. It's powerful enough to spin the wheels when the turbo kicks in 2nd gear if it's a bit wet which is better than my mums 1.2 petrol punto.
It sounds quiet in comparison with other diesels and it's the smallest most advanced common rail diesel engine in the world. The engine was developed with GM and will be going in all vauxhalls etc in the future.
Anyone else got any comments on this car? Anyone tried the 1.9 Multijet that's in the HGT (AFAIK).

LOL welcome on board. There are a number of JTD owners on here who rave about them - and of course myself. I have a tuned 1.9JTD and quick is an understatement! As soon as I have sorted to communications to tune that 1.3 I will let you know ;-) then you will see what a MJTD can do!:D

apparently the toyota unit in the bmw mini and yaris is more advanced, dunno how they decide but there you go

Met Cognac 99 Brava 100 HSX,

No the toyata is not more advanced than the fiat. As stated the fiat is the most advanced of its kind and will be. For me fait diesels have been the best due to the fact that they not only invented common-rail direct injection but also have carried on developing the unit which the latest being in JTD and Mjet form. The best of its kind by far[8D]

Oh, BTW, I did originally order a JTD HGT punto, but changed to the Stilo :).

Wouldn't mind a razz in an HGT tho;)

Stilo TURBO!!!!(diesel)

toyota were saying there's was most advanced, but seeing as fiat inventeed common rail diesels i'd have to believe the italians this time too.

Why is Fiat still selling a 1.9 litre dielsel (turbo?) with only 100bhp then? I don't understand that.

I know, the injection system is Bosch Monopoint (monotronic I think) injection on my Uno. A huge number of cars use their injection systems however I believe? Our old Renault 21's used very similar injection.

I just had to disagree that Fiat had invented it, that's all, following some work I did once on diesel engines.

CRF (Centro Ricerche Fiat -> Fiat Research Centre) invented common rail injection, but Fiat didn't industrialize it... why???
Ask to old (stupid) Fiat management...

So they sold their design patents to Bosch, with a year of exclusive rights to mount the Bosch injection pomps...

145/6 1,9 JTD, 156 1,9 JTD, Bravo/a 105 jtd do you remember them?....

Now Multijet is a step 2 of commmon rail injection, but Fiat didn't have enough resources to industrialize it... so arrived GM (with money) and is born Fiat-GM Powertrain with seat in Turin...

Now Powertrain produces M-jet for Fiat and for some models of GM family (Opel/Vauxval, Daewoo... )

Corsa just mounts 1,3 (Fiat) M-jet (1,3 CDTI ;))
New Astra will mount 1,9 (Fiat) M-jet 150 bhp... (1,9 CDTI)

For the success of these engines, in Italy there are some problems for avaiabilty of M-jet models... You can wait 3-4 months for a Lancia Ypsilon 1,3 M-jet...

The Punto HGT JTD is only 100bhp, but it has 192Lb/ft torque, the same as a Porshe Boxster, it is plenty in a small hatch;)

This is the plant where Bosch produces its injection pomps...
