who got the shorter end of the stick in the deal fiat had with russia? did fiat know the steel was reclaimed, did russia know how bad fiats were!?:D

Met Cognac 99 Brava 100 HSX, what do you want? cupholders? open door warning light? grow up!

Colm, some of your posts confuse me. If you don't like Fiats then fair enough. But why the need to post this? What's the point in it? There are a few Fiat enthusiasts on this site that don't take kindly to comments like the above, especially when they are so random and unnecessary.

I too dont understand that post. Fiat got years worth of poor quality steel in exchange for a new modern factory and the tooling for the 124 body. However there the similarity ends.. the 124 was a nimble handling and fast saloon. Lada added more weight to the body, raised the ride height and fitted there own crappy engine range, result a slow and thirsty car that handled like a blamanche! So Lada went on totally on their own to produce equally bad cars for the rest of their time, Fiat cars are good, not bad[}:)]

Gotta agree with the rest, Fiat got a poor deal, and Lada went off and made bad cars on their own merit, IMO the Riva was in many ways a better car than the later samara, probably due only to its 124 origins.

Oh and Fiat aren't the only manufacturer to use poor steel, think Montego, think Maestro;)

What a load of cobblers!

Do you people ever get fed up of slating this marque? If you don't like it, no one is forcing you to own one, or visit this site!

The point is, they don't use Russian steel now, you get eight years anti-perforation and the bodies are fully galvanised.

Who gives a s**t about the past, probably the same people who care that England won the World Cup in 66, whooppee doo!

Ok, sorry Steve but this constant slagging off of FIAT really pisses me off!

I'm with you all the way on that one. No-one loves Fiats and Italian cars more than me and I get sick of it. I get it everywhere, from workmates, family, friends, etc. I've finally got another mate into an Italian car and he can now see for himself that all the talk is nonsense.

Colm has had a lot of bad luck with his Brava, so I can understand where he's coming from, but you can't judge a whole marquee by your experience of just one car.

Your dead right about how the poor steel got Fiat the bad rep it has struggled to get rid of right to this day.

What is also a real shame is that the whole Lada thing has tarnished the image of the 124, which was until then seen as a stylish and sporty car, it is now (IMO) seriously undervalued as a classic as those who don't know think it is identical to the Lada derived from it.:(

One good thing to come of it is that for anyone who appreciates the 124, they are now bargain classic cars:D

I love classic cars me:D

when did fiat start the fully galvanised thing, i know my punto 1998 is because there has been a bit of paint missing from the bottom of the wing and its bare metal, and it has not rusted at all and its been like that since ive had it. but ive seen some 1994/95 puntos with slight rust around the boot lock, My dad is now wanting me to get him a punto but i want to get him a galvanised one.

The 124 even had disc brakes all round :)

My 124 Special was my pride and joy many years ago. I sold it to a bloke who ultimately traded it in for a new ... Lada [:(!]
