As far as I'm aware all Puntos were galvanised since day one.

do you think that its something to do with making the hole for the lock that has made some rust?

my point is: fiat are still paying for it in peoples (often unjustified) attitude to fiat as rustbuckets, but of all the problems people have with their fiats, rust doesn't seem to be one of them. but if you think back to cars like the alfasud and 124 rust immediately springs to mind. as cars today are so similar the past is a very important factor. the new golf mightn't be fantastic but people see so many mk1 and mk2 golfs still perfect it reassures them. no matter how tenous the link between the two cars is, generations still remember old Fiats and are wary of the new ones. it's hard to find a better specced or priced car than Fiat, but while the generation that remember fiats rusting en route from the factory to the dealers are the car buying public and until fiat improves their customer service, sales will suffer.

remember that before this deal, Fiats were admittedly very good looking cars but weren't perfect and they did need the money, but I can't understand why people can get so offended by a simple observation (true or not!)

i think it was because you implied the car designs Fiat sold to Lada were poor designs. I think everyone would agree that the steel Fiat got in return was as poor as it gets and that in turn has probably been at the root of the cause of any bad rep Fiat has gained:(
