Just curious, i have always had a 1.6 Fiat LOL - first car was a Marea 1.6 Automatic and i now have the 1.6 Brava Automatic - on both cars i have always had about 120-130 miles for £20 was just wondering what you guys get, my mate has a 1.2 Brava manual and his is excellent (probably because it is manual and a 1.2 though)

So, fire away :)

i'd get about 125-150. so thats about 27-30mpg. i've got a 1.8 bravo and i dont drive it with an aim of saving fuel so really i should get less than you. plus i used to have a 1.6 bravo and that got more like 140-165miles.
having an automatic makes the car a lot slower, but it shouldnt have that big an effect on fuel consumption. maybe an emissions tests is worth while to see if its overfueling. you could have a sensor problem that is wasting you loads of money (such as lambda sensor)

i get about 200 odd miles for £20, (1242 mk1 punto).

much MUCH nicer than the missus's (1.8 i think) ford escort :p

from my 1.2 punto manual £20 @90plitre
220-230miles sounds right, I don't drive it that softly either!!! nail it up to speed then nuture it along;)

drove a 1.3jtd punto today, if that thing got its 60mpg (people who have them and drive normally get that, more if being careful) and run it on veg oil (about half price:p so 45p litre) then it would get about - 586:eek: miles to £20 worth of fuel
feck it I'm going to buy the thing:cool:

and guys and gal's with performance NA motor's
scrap them and buy turbo cars:D
the 265bhp saab gets on average 36mpg (upto 39 on a very good run, lowest is about 33 in town) on a normal work run, traffic lights, A road bashing, making a mokery of evo's and scoobies (std ones) and pretty much any merc that a cumbria could afford.
makes 175miles per £20 of petrol @ 0.9 (get v power here for 91 at the mo!!)

1.6 litre engines are weird, for all their small, they have to strain a lot in bigger cars (marea's and mondeo's etc) so are barely less economical than say a 2.0 16v or more.
add an auto box, and whilst you will loose some power (upto 10% bhp, and 20% torque) its more fuel that takes a hit, especially with a petrol auto, got to rev to make useful shifts and generally skips up and down gears being a pain in the proverbial.
diesels work much better with auto's (and big petrols, like 4.7v8s in landcruisers etc) as they have SOO much more torque than petrol's this helps cator for the resistance in the box and makes it drive a bit better (holds gears for longer, less shifts, rev's lower)

Where would i go for an emissions test and approximatley how much are they?

Do you think about i should be getting a lot more than 120-130 miles for £20?

an emisisons test can be done at any MOT garage, or most garages really. it'll be £10 at most, or free if you ask nicely and catch them when they arent busy. all they do is stack a probe (called a lance) into the exhaust and an engine speed (rpm) sensor near the crankshaft pulley or camshaft pulley(s) then read the values on the digital display.

for high CO at idle and /or fast idle and Lambda is too low, the mixture is too rich. This can be caused either by a misfire or by a faulty Lambda sensor. If it's running very rich, the 02 and HC will be higher than normal.
if it has a high Lambda and high 02 (0.5 to 1.5%), the cat could be faulty. Before condemning it make sure its hot enough to work, the Lambda and other sensors are working OK and the exhaust downpipe hasn't got any leaks.
if the vehicle has high HC and ok CO, the vehicle is probably misfiring. Or if the CO is high and the Lambda reading is too low, the mixture is probably too rich and it may also be misfiring.
if the CO is high, the Lambda reading is high and the O2 reading is high (0.5 to 1.5%) the cat could be faulty. Again check out the simple measures above before condemning it.
if the Lambda fails then and its too high the Lambda sensor may be faulty, the mixture may be too weak or there may be a hole in the exhaust downpipe. If Lambda is too low the sensor may be faulty, the mixture may be rich or the vehicle may be misfiring

if the emissions are ok it would suggest the fueling is ok, which means you're losing mpg elsewhere (blocked air filter?)

i think you should get more than 120-130 miles to £20.

Thanks, Jug!

You sure seem to know your Fiat's well! :) I will take it down for an emissions test sometime next week. I have just put £40 in my car (suprising because £40 has maxed the fuel, where as i am used to my old Marea taking about 60 LOL) I reset the counter immediatley and i will let you know how many miles i have got got this £40 fill up (Will probably only last me a week or two :p)
