My dad (Julio_scorchio) and I want to fit a recently purchased Greddy Turbo Timer to my dad's Turbo Cinq but we've come across a problem. . . . .:(

In order for it to work properly it requires an electrical speedo signal, however the speedo on cinq's is driven by a cable connected directly to the diff, and this therefore doesn't give any sort electrical signal.

The problem is if I us an electronic sender (from say a punto) and connect this to the diff in place of the speedo cable, yes I will get an electrical signal for the Turbo Timer, but the speedo cable wont have anything to plug into and the speedo on the dash will stop working = NOT GOOD

Having searched far and wide I've found the thing I think I need, see below

http://www.classicchevy.com/product.asp?pf_id=19-07&dept_id=1834

Its an Autometer Hall Effect Speedometer Sender Unit (Part number 5291)

From what I've read this unit (in my case) would screw onto the diff and then the manual speedo cable would screw onto the top of it. Meaning my dash speedo would still work and I'd have an electrical signal for the Turbo Timer to use.

However here goes the other problem, where on earth do I get one of these from, I've tried everwhere and can't seem to find anyone in the UK that sells them, I've searched the web high and low, and now one even seems to ship to the UK.

I was just wondering if anyone knew of anywhere that sells these, or has tried fitting an item similar to their car, or knows of a better way of doing it?

All help very much appreiated.

What about Stack? Surely they have something that can convert cable to electrical signals for those electronic speedos etc? You'd probably have to ring them but worth a shot.

Cheers Matey, I never thought of them, (I've no idea why).

I'm searching on google as I speak, hopefully I'll come up with something.

Couldnt you use an ABS sensor? It looks to be effectively the samew sensing principle - variable reluctance with missing teeth!

do you really need a turbo timer, a you really going to leave the car running when your out of it, I'd bet there's no reputable insurance company in the UK that would condone such things on a policy. Sounds like more hassle then it worth.

Sorry I've not been back with updates on my search, but my dam internet's been playing up and I've been having real trouble connecting.

I wanna say a big thankyou for everyones input especially "SkinzCinqSporting" and "VindiVee8" as your information has been really useful. :slayer:

Well I think I've finally found what I need see link below;

http://www.demon-tweeks.com/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=BNZBR1

"GM/Vauxhall/Fiat/Ford (FWD) /Skoda/Lada gearbox sensor which fits most gearboxes of the above models. (M18 x 1.5mm thread, square drive)"

It provides a pulse signal which is exactly what the turbo timer needs and it looks to screw directly onto the gearbox, and the speedo cable then screws onto the other end of it, allowing me to still have the speedo fully working.(y)

A total cost of £43.07 including postage  , but I'm going to buy a few things at once to save postage costs, not exactly cheap, but it is what I need so I'm going to get it anyway.

Thanks once again for all your help.

Brian

Did any of the links I posted help then? I would have thought at least one would have been able to help. Glad you got it sorted mate.

Yeah mate they did help (y), I had a good look through the sites you posted up, searched through all the manufactures that made gauges and looked to see if they made any sensors that allowed their gauges to take a reading from the transmission.

I must admit it was the kitcar reference that helped the most though. Once that was mentioned I asked one of my dad's mates that's raced Kit car's for years and he said "Oh Brantz make them, have a look in the Demon Tweeks catalog", and Bingo I found what I was after. :D

Thanks once again

Glad to be of help. Guages are going to be one of my headaches I think when I get that far, mainly cost though. Expensive to get a full set that look (y)
